I never knew these places existed until I saw the other thread going on! To my surprise we have a couple in our area.
I'm trying to figure out how my dogs would react to going-- is how they react at the vet's a good baseline? I have this horrible picture in my head of Jake behaving until I got him nice and soapy, then another dog who growls coming in and him flipping out (this may be totally irrational).
When I took him to the vet he was totally opposite from what I expected. On walks he used to react aggressively towards other dogs until we figured out how to deal with it. Yet when we went to the vet, he saw the other barking dogs and slunk down towards the floor as close to me as he could get!
I'd love to try the dog wash... the hair in the bath-tub during winter is such a mess. Any thoughts on how to have the best experience? Do they typically have separate rooms for each "client"? Do I leave the prong on him and wash around it? Part of dealing with the aggression was 1) moving to the prong and 2) learning (thanks to the board's help) how to recognize and redirect his attention when we see another barking/growling dog. I'm not sure I want to have him on a flat collar around other dogs just yet...
If we're not ready that's fine- I don't want to make a difficult situation for us or anyone else, but I'd really like to try this if possible-
** Mod Note **
I wouldn't call this a hijack.
And I feel really sure that we don't need two threads on self-serve dog-wash places.

And .... moving the whole thing to "Grooming."
There are lots of forums here, folks. The General one is for topics that don't fit anywhere else.
The reason for what might look like pickiness is that a reader looking for a certain topic is going to look (surprise!) under the forum heading describing the topic.
From my experience Carolyn the self serve dog wash places have separate rooms for you to use. Not the mass, glass enclosed grooming rooms you see in pet chain stores...uggh.
You may want to call ahead or visit one beforehand. They could probably recommend a down time when there would be less dogs there to encounter on the way in or out too.
Both of the places here have a separate little room for each tub. I think it used to be a tanning salon or something similar.
If your worried about his reaction to other dogs I would go during the week and not around 5:30, My dog isnt dog aggressive but we went once at 5:30 or so and it was a madhouse and he just couldnt cope so we left and went back the next morning.
