I raise all my pups in crates indoors, as well as housebreaking them and they gradually move to kennels when they get older.
I believe it is really important to at least raise them to have manners if they are going to be inside at any point in their lives.
Plus, I think it is equally important to include them into the house. After all, we are their pack and they deserve time with us no matter where we are.
I would at least let the 7wk old sleep in a crate in the house until he gets through the hard separation period, if not both of them in separate crates.
I completely agree with Carol. 7 weeks is too young to be outside alone. So is 9 weeks actually. I believe they should both be crated indoors and transitioned to outside kennels later, if you really have to.
OK, I have put them both in the house and they are both in their own crate. It's funny though the 7 week old is doing great but the 9 week old female is having a fit. She just won't seem to settle down in the crate.
Here's another question, when having them in the house in crates do you let them out at all in the house or just keep them in the crate for a couple hours at at time and then just let them in the yard for exercise?

I tether my pups to me and they have to follow me around the house. They do not get to run around the house loose. If I am sitting on the couch, they are tethered to me or the table, with something to chew on.
It is kind of nervewracking at first since they do not know what I expect as far as manners, but the tethering helps them to learn quickly.
While they are out and tethered to me, I also do some short
sessions of "obedience" work with high value treats. If any of my dogs that are in the house in their crates act up while I am working with another dog, I cover the crate with a blanket.

Thank you Carol, I saw in Leerburg's video 8 weeks to 8 months that he says the same thing about tethering the dogs to you. I was wondering though do you think that 7 weeks is to young to do that?
