A tip my derm vet gave me for my itchy dog is to use DVM Relief Creme Rinse as a leave-in conditioner on the days when he doesn't get bathed. It contains oatmeal and helps soothe his skin.
DVM HyLyt Bath Oil is a rinse-out or leave-in spray that is very moisturizing and was also recommended by my vet to help soothe the skin and reduce the dry flakes. I use this between baths, too.
It is a very interesting topic. I now live in Texas and apparently, these mites live in the grasses here.
I had never heard this before as I had lived my whole life in Minnesota prior to moving here.
Krista, thank you for your very interesting info. I am currently having itching issues with my 8 month old GSD.
Just learning about inhalent allergies as well, so I am on the investigation path trying to accertain what her real issues are just like you are Leih.
I have used the Earth Clinic bath (for a patch of demodex) of
Borax/ hydrogen peroxide/ water baths. It has helped really well and her fur is coming back in.
I suspect that the Borax bath might work the same, if in fact, the dog has these little pests(chiggers) It works on fleas as well.
Check out the Earth Clinic article for treatment of demodex and just see what you guys think.
