Wow, then I would have be getting off easy! I was not looking forward to the phone call that the cat bit a vet tech or something, and having to pay 300 bucks to board for 10 days, I can't imagine 60+ days. That would be so horrible for a cat or dog. The vet also said if it was a dog, I would have to come in whenever I can to walk him, since I would have to be the only one to physically handle him.
I say get the 3 year for sure, at least that's not as bad as getting one every year, it's the same vaccine. The initial shot still must be a 1 year though.
Well, the only up side to the six months thing is, after 90 days (or something like that), the dog (no idea for cats) can be quarantined on your own property.
You must build an outdoors enclosure for you dog to live in, under certain specs. They come out and inspect periodically, and after the 6 month period, you take the dog back to the vet for a clean bill of health.
It is interesting how the different states, and counties I would assume, can be so different. In Santa Barbara County, California, it is a 10 day quarantine period for dogs and cats if no proof of vaccination is available. They can be boarded at home under certain circumstances. There IS a fine for a dog without the license and you cannot get a license without proof of vaccination.
I asked about the dog part, as I have always followed a no vaccination policy with my pets. I know about the cat part from firsthand experience.
There was a local stray tom cat that decided to make friends with my dogs and then chose to live in my garage. Never fed him, but would give him some pets once in a while. Thought he lived somewhere else. Apparently, while I was out of town for a week, he got into a neighbor’s home one morning and bit her… I had seven notices on my front door (guess they all thought he was my pet&hellip when I got home, from animal control, wanting to see proof of rabies. Took three days to catch him (they wanted to quarantine him so the woman didn't have to go through the shots for herself) so it equaled the full ten days. It was enough to see that he was (apparently) healthy and chose to send him home with me instead of PTS. Even gave me a free neuter for him…
