The dog is going potty outside. There isn't enough money in the world to make me correct a dog for peeing in the right general area.
I'd just try to quickly take the dog past the porch when I first went out, and then prevent it access back onto the porch until after it went potty on the grass.
If he ended up going on the porch anyway (because I failed to prevent it), I'd just ignore it.
It's not really bad behavior, it's just not quite the perfect behavior. It's a bit like crooked sits, you don't correct a young dog for it, you just guide it in the right direction, and withhold praise until he hits the mark.
Another idea that just occurred to me...
Try feeding the dog on the porch for awhile. He might get the general idea. Most dogs don't want to pee where they get their food.
And maybe leave a couple "goods" around on the grass until he gets the idea. That's what we did when we wanted ours to go in a specific area of the yard and it worked like a charm!
