... A new kibble is absolutely possible. If you were to urge a favorite and a second favorite kibble, what might they be?
First, how's the diarrhea?
I would want that 100% under control, because I actually doubt that the brand of food is the cause. It could be, of course, but I'm guessing that it's either too much at a meal or that there is a parasite or other problem.
Then, are you considering kibble only, a mix of canned and kibble, a mix of kibble and THK, kibble with maybe some raw, or what?
I would love to sneak in here that I strongly believe that kibble is best when more than one type is given. For example, I know several members here who use (for example) a mixture of one brand's fish and another's bison.
I don't believe that one food, forever, every day, no matter how excellent, can come close to covering the nutritional bases.

So Connie -- for kibble feeders are you saying that it is better to rotate between say 2 or 3 high-quality kibbles than to feed one exclusively for the life of the dog?
With that are you looking for variety of protein sources in the kibble?

1. Heck yeah.
2. I'm aiming for varied protein profiles, yes. What I want is to give as many amino-acid profiles as I can. But the other stuff (forms of micronutrients, types of produce, etc.) is better in variety, too.
I always reserve a couple of protein sources for every dog for just in case (a couple of meats he has never even tasted, in case of an allergy issue in the future), but otherwise, I believe that variety is critical..... just as it is for almost any mammal.
I'd probably mix them, but rotating by day is fine too, IMO.
Imagine designing a bag of food that would give you (another mammal) everything you need, forever, with nothing added ..... Can't be done, in any practical way.

Thanks Connie. It makes perfect sense.
I feed raw and rotate between protein sources -- and veggies too for that matter -- it never occured to me to suggest rotating or mixing kibbles to other folks I know that feed kibble though.
Thanks again!

Mike, excuse me if I'm asking the obvious, but did the vet do a fecal on her when you first got her?
If she's a poop eater I am wondering if she may have picked up something from that source?

The raw diet really helped my puppy with loose stool as well, but she needed an enzyme in addition. We've tried a few enzyme products, they all seem to work equally well for her. Yogurt is the most easily obtainable, and can replace part of the diet. (Maggie is a messy puppy though, and yogurt with chicken parts is a recipie for a big mess, so we prefer the powdered products.)
