Thanks everybody for the info....I do have to say I have a show line dog that has working lines in him and that can work very well. And I know from seeing others and now knowing the differance,I am truly lucky...He works very hard, loves it and looks good doing it...It just sucks that he won't be with us long.....
Sorry about your puppy! Look for a breeder with great females. Great dams make great puppies. There are plenty of great male dogs for sires because everyone proofs and trials the males and spends time and money promoting them but not many females are tested and proven nearly as well as the males. A lot of puppies both show and working are the result of a great sire and a so, so dam. Find a really good female and get one of her pups and your odds go up. Chances are that if she is a great female she will be bred to a great sire anyway. I'm not convinced there aren't as many clear headed SV show line dogs as working line. If a show line dog is also good working dog a miraculous change takes place and they become working line. How you raise and socialize the puppy will be a big influence on their head and disposition regardless of show or working line. I have an 11 month old male puppy from a 14X Sch III sire and a 3X Sch III dam and he is sweet as sugar and he had all 1's and 2's on his puppy scores. Working line dogs may sometimes have more energy and drive but what they do with their energy and temperament is up to you and the training you give. Good luck!
