That same company makes a lighted ball, it's awesome.
Batteries for them are expensive, like $3.50 each at Target. Do a search for them on the net, you can get 100 of them for like $35.
As for dogs not being able to see red, they may not see the red, but they can see the light coming from it. My ball is red, and if I wing it into the woods at night he goes right to it. Just don't hit it with a bat or the electronics fly out of it.

I have tried many different collar lights when training the dog team and they always manage to get snagged on the gangline, broken or somehow detached from the collar or just flat out quit working due to getting coated in frozen dog slobber. I got a SpotLit a couple of months ago http://leerburg.com/1201.htm and am very impressed with how sturdy it is and how well it works. I highly recommend this as a great safety light for anyone who trains or exercises their dogs at night. Excellent piece of gear!
Mine came yesterday and I put one on the black dog tonight. We just went outside to test it. (Been waiting all day. )
It is fantastic!
I got red. The dog doesn't care at all. Never even tried to look down to see the light source.
And the red light is very visible.
I loooove this thing! You just press it to turn it on and off, but it wouldn't activate with normal lying down, etc. Smooth and round, not catch-y on stuff, and solid.

P.S. Note that to de-activate the "try me" mode (which turns it on, but only briefly), there's a little tag saying to hold it down until rapid flashing indicates that "try me" is de-activated.
Myself I do not like the tag type of product because you can't see it when the dog is not facing you. I run my dogs in a fenced area and if the dog is trying to dig out of the fence (for example) or hiding under a bush not facing me, I cannot see him/find him with the tag type. (I have used 3 different ones)
The full collar type is much better for overall visibility. That is of course IME.
The only downside to the collar type is their very short life expectancy.
One of my neighbors tonight assumed when he saw us out walking that my dogs were wearing Christmas decorations! (He said "I like it! Much better than those felt antlers!" )
P.S. I loooove being able to see the red glows bouncing all over the dark yard. Dark winter evenings hold no trepidation for me any more! I know right where they are.
