Well, Tracy, hopefully your relative heard at least a little bit of what you told her after the incident. If not, just keep you boy in his crate when she's around. Only safe way it seems. Good thing nobody was hurt. Too bad your husband left the room and disregarded the severity of the situation.
Cesar Milan's show is just to show people that if they have problems with their dog and don't know what to do, that there is help and that you don't need to take the dog to the shelter. Just because the dog has a certain behavior that the owner doesn't know how to fix. *At the very begining and after commercial breaks there is a discretionary advisery that says not to attempt ANY of the techniques without consulting a professional dog trainer first. SO, it's stupid people who think that they can help by pulling a "Cesar" and trying to "help".

Oh yes Keleah, I know it's the stupid people and not HIM, himself...but 'monkey see-monkey do', ha ha. They watch one show and think they can fix their dogs who have been running wild for eight years because they saw this guy do it. Disclaimers or not.

I wanted to add that I just 'thought' about my comment that I wished that Cesar show would be taken off the air.
I just realized that if I think THIS show shouldn't be on the air because it might give some stupid people stupid ideas then I wonder why I am not concerned about other shows? Because, couldn't, for example, CSI teach people to commit crimes more carefully? LOL I suppose people might learn from anything and if some idiot wants to attempt a possibly dangerous act they saw on TV I shouldn't blame it on anyone but the stupid person. I got a real kick out of his show (and I giggled at his website) but I suppose if he can help someone, that's all that matters.

If Cesar wasn't so heavily edited by people who have no idea what is pertinent to show and what is not, I don't think we'd have these problems. You can't take things out of context and come away w/the same conclusion.

All those incidents sound terrifying and the sad thing is the dog would be blamed. Cesar is an idiot on many things. I have learned the hard way to crate and lock the crates of my dogs when people are around unless they are my best and trusted friends who respect my dogs.
I had a similar incident with a date of one of my friends who was a few drinks when he tried to dominate my 110 lb male who is pretty dominant himself by doing a Cesar move. OMG !!! My male was doing everything but sending out smoke signals (come to think of it, I do think steam was coming out of his ears). The idiot let my male out of his crate to say hi then tried a Cesar on him, said he knew what he was doing, he watches Cesar all the time. Keep in mind he had to go through a few rooms to see the dogs. Moral: My male has excellent self control (better than his humans that day, I was way too close to committing an assault), and I always LOCK the crates until company other than trusted friends has left.

I have to say that the idiot in this story isn't Cesar Millan. JMO.
"Doing a Cesar move" is not, IMHO, having a few drinks, opening someone else's dog's crate, and attempting to physically dominate the dog. For fun.

Personally, I love Ceasar! I so agree with Jenni on the editing. This man has a very rare talent, one I am quite envious of! It is too bad that the producers of the show make it look like it is so simple anyone can make their dog behave in 1/2 hour. Disclaimer or no Disclaimer, they should have a special edition that shows all the excercises that Ceasar actually does to get the dog from point A to point B.

I wonder how many times in his life Ceasar has been bit.
If they had running 'bit meter' with each disclaimer think maybe it'd give the 'know it alls' who watch the show paws for some thought?
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.

I agree with you that he is amazing and has a rare talent. Part dog, I think.
His seminars used to be "everyone bring their dog" things, with a dozen, maybe, or fewer people. I think he deserves every ounce of his fame, but I sure do think fondly of the "olden days."
His work to demonstrate the importance of pack leadership is invaluable.
