I have read online (once) that someone had like 4 raw fed boxers (that didn't fart) and they caused a sensation. Apparently boxers that don't pass gas are extremely rare
I second the notion for increased probiotics and good bacteria (like plain yogurt or kefir) added to his food. Canidae is NOT grain free. Orijen, Innova EVO and Wellness Core are some I can think of off the top of my head that are grain free. Have you tried raw food with this pup?
Connie, I have not tried to smell the loose stool. Have no idea if it's smell is worse than normal or not.
Angela, I tried the bacteria when I switched to Natural Balance and then back to Canidae and it seemed to do nothing. Raw is not for me. I have read the Innova, EVO and Wellness were probably better than Canidae but I can't seem to find them anywhere in my area. I've tried every pet store that I can find.
Jennifer, I haven't had him tested for anything yet. That's the reason I posted this. To find out if this was a typical Boxer thing or if I should have my vet check him out.
It might be worth while to take a stool sample in, maybe a solid and a loose one to get checked.
The yogurt or Kiefer can take some time to work, but it is always a good thing to add to the diet, both for the enzymes and bacteria and the added calcium IMO.
all of my dogs had horrible horrible gas with Candidae, and Innova EVO.
I had a friend who had a boxer with a rather delicate GI system. Lots of gas. She fed him Verus brand kibble and it seemed to help.
She mentioned that it seems to be a boxer trait also.
The great thing about the chicken soup formula, besides being well tolerated is the price. I pay 26 dollars for a big bag that lasts me nearly two weeks.

Our golden had smelly gas and soft stools on every single kibble we tried - and we tried a LOT of them. Didn't matter if it had grains, did not have grains, EVO, etc., he still had problems. Switched to raw and it all went away! I didn't think it was for me either, but now I'm sooo glad I switched.

I have to echo those sentiments. It was exactly the same thing with Shabbado. Now if I could just stop grossing people out by spreading the word.
