Angela, Toby is my bf, but he doesn't work the dogs. Come for a walk and handle Luc is usually about it, or take Neb out to go to the washroom. This weekend with Luc was the first time he's ever trained one of them.
They definitely love him, but they're not quite as well-behaved with him, especially Teagan.
With my brother, he cares for them when I'm away, and often comes up to say hi, but doesn't work/train with them, so....
They do know both of them well though, so I really wasn't sure if I should expect that they would respond to their commands.

I find that if Im not around, Tucker does listen to my BF. But if Im there, he looks to me first. almost as if to ask "is it ok"?
which Im fine with me.
When Im home im in charge of Tucker.
And i have the same issue with Tucker and Fetch.
If Im there he brings the ball to me, no matter who throws it.
But in that instance I do make him bring it to the person that threw the ball.
IMO if I took the ball from him, that would be ME doing what he wants me to do. (me play with him, instead of dave)
and no, i don't correct, I just tell him to bring it to Dave.
i use hand signals, and we do a lot of non-verbal communication. it's not that i never tell him sit or down, but a lot of the time, i just say his name, and he knows what i want based on the context.
I do the same thing with Danke.
And kick myself every time we are on the Schutzhund field.
I'm going to lose a lot of BH points for the extra "command" (her name).
I'm actually really trying not to get into the habit with Neb, and so far, pretty good.
I always like to say Luc is such a good dog all I have to do is say his name....
Wendy, that's a good point. I'll ask my brother how they are when I'm not there. I'm generally there when Toby is there - he doesn't get multiple dogs/animals, though he loves them all, so for the most part I try to minimize anything around the dogs that he does that would seem like work. It was one reason why I thought it was cool he wanted to have Luc listen to him and did the little training session. He also loves how excited and playful Teagan gets when he's over (she adooores him), but it's a fine line, since she can sometimes forget her manners if she gets over-excited. We talked about that earlier this week actually.
