I do shorten my runs a bit, if it's really extreme or really windy.
My typical route takes 45-60 minutes if I don't dawdle. On the really bad days, I'll do about 20 minutes a couple times that day. this year there has only been one day like that so far. Our place is the second highest point in the county and we get wind when it's dead calm elsewhere, so the wind is a big factor.

We in Western Washington have gone from heavy (for us) snow and ice to heavy (for anyone) rain and flooding. I have two solutions:
1. Move to a warmer climate.
2. Get one of these (I did): http://leerburg.com/1196.htm
Here is how you use it. Get eGGe. Go to door. Open door and let dog out. Throw eGGe out into fenced yard. Close door. Watch dog play through window. When dog stops playing with eGGE put on warm clothes, go outside, pickup eGGe and throw it again. Go back inside and watch dog play through window. Repeat cycle until dog has all his exercise in.

We either walk all of the dogs at least once a day, or I load them up and we play go play basketball at the school we bought:
Rock on Offense
Free Throw
Jesea plays dirty defense though so I have to be careful or the superglue comes out. For this shot, I had to throw on her prong and lead (the reason it is not placed correctly) just so she would stay there.
Max is off running around the building checking windows with Doug and Ajay and Marley are in the upper classrooms running around with Heather (my daughter) until it is their turn to play ball.
I do something daily with each one as I am in total agreement that they need it and thrive from it.

It's getting bad.
I'm supposed to deploy with my unit to the East side of the mountains tomorrow.
We're just trying to figure out how to get there, as all of the Passes are closed, I-5 is closed down south so we can't go through Portland, and I haven't mastered levitation yet.
Be careful, you're do for some pretty nasty flooding in your area, Rich.

That's officially the coolest thing to play with the dogs!
Teagan would go crazy without exercise....games and obedience training don't cover her energy.
I like running, hiking, and backpacking with the dogs. It's why I have them! So I get to share that stuff with them. The best thing ever is going backpacking with the dogs (not sharing tents of course ) and just getting to be with them outside all day, on the trail and in camp. For the most part, I don't understand it when people get other people to walk their dogs or put them on a dreadmill - it seems like they're missing out, to me. Besides, the dreadmill doesn't give the same kind of mental stimulation that outside does.
Teagan!

I don't run...kudos to those who can.
Having a Northern breed, he has no sympathy for me regardless of the cold. Just got in. Not bad..12 degrees F..but wind gusts of 30 miles an hour. A little snow mixed in with the wind.
Ski suit, parka, warm socks, two hats, one hood, and off we went.
(No bad weather...just bad clothing).
Oh...and pouring down rain means rain gear for me. He's fairly waterproof.
Look! I DO fit in the bag. |

It is rare we don't get out some every day, only the nastiest of days do we stay in. I'm pretty jealous of Carol's school house, but I have the fairgrounds to play in everyday behind me. Open, flat, fenced....pretty lucky. If I'm feeling too lazy or don't want to rough the elements, the least I can do is a good game of fetch. We had zero today and it wasn't bad at all on our walk. We practiced agility on Sunday in the unheated horse barn at -8. We were always drawing the line at 10 degrees, but it's no fun missing play time.
