Sunny
If whatever frightened your pup initially, doesn't frighten him on subsequent exposures...means his recovery is very good. This is a very good start and good reason for you NOT to give up, but give the pup every opportunity you can.
Patience, perseverence, and time...with good genetics it's amazing what these three can do for a pup.

could not find the look i was after! Sounds like you want a show pup, and not a working one. It's one thing if the pup is way out of standard for that breed, but to be looking for a working pup and to be picky about a color or pattern is a little out of sort for someone looking for a working pup. It has been my experience that the ones considered "ugly" make the best workers. Just my personal observation. I honestly don't mean any disrespect but unless you make working your #1 and only priority, please do the dogs a favor and don't do any breeding. I also believe it is more likely that you passed up some very good dogs to compromised for looks, which would be the reason you have the pup you ended up with. Your pup either has good nerves from genetics are it doesn't. You can't teach nerves.

actually chris my pup is coming along very nicely!!!
he is adjusting quite well now.better and better each day,for i only had him 9 days now.
and yes im probally not going to be very active in the sport as of now ,but who knows later i might be.i love the breed,i love the working ability of the working line but adore the looks of the showline dog.i understand you being against the showline for breeding, thats the fault of people not caring what they breed but thier are showline dogs that can work pretty nicely!!!i had a sch3 dog imported to ,he was out of scott deodontus and he had it all !!the full package looks, temperment and very good working ability!!his scores were awsome for a showline.so it goes to show you can have it all.
as far as my male pup now,if later his temperment and hips are good and he is able to obtain his titles then by all means i will breed him!!!!!why not??he is out of excellent lines he is a va Marko della Valcuvia son out of dux Valcuvia who is producing very nicely.
but i will only breed him under those conditions.

Titles are a very bad deciding factor for breeding. Good dogs can title, but crappy ones can too. You even admit that you have lower standards for the black and "blonde" dogs by saying, "his scores were awsome for a showline." Typical show dog rhetoric.

Sunny,...Because of the problems in schutzhund and the politics, it is no longer the only tool in decieding which animals should be breed, in fact we can no longer use schutzhund as a way to deciede what dog is better than another dog to breed. Just because a show line dog can do well in schutzhund or get a high score does not mean it should be breed. Same for Working line. Unfortunitly there needs to be others "tests" and things to consider for a stud dog and a breeding female. No one can stop you in breeding just don't mix the show line and the working line. I think more people are understanding that in the GSD there are different breeds or strains. Showline being one. The entire looks or funtion thing blows my mind. Not sure I'll ever understand it. But just do us a favor and don't interbreed show line and working line. It wouldn't do anyone any good.

I have one of those show / working mixes and my dog, well, I love him very very much but the word "Frankenstein" comes to mind with his mismatched body parts and his spooky temperament.

I think it can be done, but it takes a lot more ability and knowledge of breeding than most people in this country would ever have. Some German kennels have done excellent work in putting the two together - Kirschental and some others.
This is a dog that I might think of as a good example as well:
Vasco vom Slater Land
check out his pedigree in the pedigreedatabase if you get the chance. Very interesting mix of lines and apparently quite a good worker as well. While I'm sure that not everyone would agree with me, I believe that a good dog is a good dog regardless of what lines they are from.

i think were getting a little ahead of ourselfs here!!i posted a question about my pup that i just got, nothing about breeding that was all, until chris tells me not to breed him, that was totally from left field.pretty harsh words or advice for not seeing a dog ,just reading a little post about a new owner and his pup!how does he know what i have all from a small post?and as far as breeding what would give you guys the idea that i want to cross showline with workingline??i still dont know if im going to be keeping this dog let alone breed him.and belive me i would not just breed any dog!i love the breed and if i would not be able to better it i definatlly would not do something to hurt it by no means!!ive been sent plenty of shit adult gsd dogs in the past,i know hands on what bad breeding can produce.and as far as sch goes yes bad dogs can recieve titles, but im not about greasing a judge to do so.in everything im a pretty straight shooter, the dog would either have it or not, end of story!! no disrespect meant to anybody, but this whole breeding subject is totally out of context of my post.again this was just a question about the behavior of a new pup.

Sorry about the off-track response before Sunny.
Without knowing anything about this dog's pedigree and without having seen the dog, I would guess that it just needs a LOT of socialization. If he is food motivated, use food as a way to make him comfortable in new situations - always bring treats wherever you go. If he has a toy he likes, bring that along. Take it slow and build on the little successes. It might just be a phase - he's at an age where he can be fearful (some call this a fear period at that age) and it could just be the new place adjustment.
If you have a good trainer nearby, it may be good to take the pup there to have them see the pup. They would probably be able to read the pup and give a better diagnosis and tell you if they think the actions are inherited or just a temporary reaction due to age/circumstances.
Good luck!
