Sounds like an intussusception.
Thanks! Sounds like a similarly dangerous situation as stomach torsion after bloat?

Intussusception can indeed recur, now that the intestine has gone this route once.
I had never heard of this until today.
Did the vet have any idea at all about cause? (There are several.)
The vet told me they don't know what causes it.
Tango will be 5 in August.
Sounds like an intussusception. Hard to believe it resolved on it's own.
Yes, I was truly amazed. I just came home from work and he is acting perfectly normal...

I am so sorry, and at the same time relived to hear that he is doing better.
Here is a post of mine from last year . Everything you describe is nearly identical including the sudden onset and then having all symptoms disappear almost as quickly.
After this post, she got progressively worse until the “attacks” were lasting anywhere from 12 to 72 hours, and the time between would be anywhere from three days to two weeks. As time went on they were longer in duration and shorter in separation. When she had two longer “attacks” in one week, we made the decision to let her go in peace.
Until the end, her good days were great! We loved and spoiled her to bits. On her bad days we managed with pain meds and fluids.
Never did get a final diagnosis. The vet did not even offer to do a necropsy, but the cost would not have been worth the curiosity. I often wish that I had…
Anyway, my earlier post had some ideas to ask about, and can be a warning that if it begins to happen on a regular basis to really jump on the vet and figure out what it is for sure! Intussusceptions rarely cures it’s self… Makes me really wonder about the diagnosis… If it is in fact the intussusception, I will pray that it was a one time deal, and all will be great from here on out!

I'm no vet (or any kind of medical professional), but I sure do agree with this.
The vet appears to have seen the actual intussusception, but to just advise "waiting to see if it happens again" sounds wrong to me. I've never heard or read of intussusceptions with that verdict/outcome. I'd want another opinion.

Somehow getting to the bottom of this and determining exactly what caused it in the first place MAY provide some insight as to how to AVOID this in the future.
Somewhere in this post someone recommended a GI specialist - I would have to agree with that 100%.
The LAST thing you want to have happen is that this happens again only to find out if something different were done that it could have been avoided.

Thanks to all for the replies and advice. We will be watching him carefully for a while and see how it goes.
This morning he didn't want to get up again but this time it is because his right hip is very sore from his exuberance yesterday. I tried to keep him calm but he was really excited about feeling so much better.
Before yesterday's x-ray the vet told me that if any of the barium was still present in his intestine they were going to get him right into surgery. What a difference one day made – the section of his small intestine had gone back down significantly in size and all the barium had all passed.
I wish I could get his before & after x-ray results and post them (maybe I can).

For anyone interested in this, the saga continues…since the original incident everything has been normal until last night when Tango very suddenly began to exhibit the exact same symptoms – unable to get up, arched/hunched back end when standing, basically did not want to get up at all and he stayed in the same place and position on the floor all night with very little movement.
This time he also has a very swollen eye ( Took this with my camera phone this morning ) which at first I thought was unrelated but now I’m wondering if he isn’t experiencing an allergic reaction so something like a bee/wasp sting…? He eats any bees/wasps/hornets that he can catch but it’s difficult to imagine that causing such a reaction in his small intestine.
Anyway, been up most of the night and now waiting to see the vet...any suggestions are appreciated.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Oh Mike...
This was the last post I wanted to read. I have no more advice other than what was previously posted. But I wanted to say that my fingers are crossed for you, and I will be thinking about you all day.
Please keep us updated.
I need to go wipe my eyes. This is too close to home...
