Hey Lani, for a little different thought on this I'll tell you what I've done with my Shepherd vs. my Rott. With the Rott, I bought a bark collar. End of the problem. With my Shepherd,I marked "Quiet" with a clicker and rewarded him. It's not perfect, obviously not for when you're not home, and doesnt always work because I don't consistantly work with him right now, but it gave him a positive reward to a command and its kinda neat to see him quiet, and look to me with excitement.

For my sister's dog it created a gradual but ever increasing state of panic. As I think about it Lacy is a noise sensitive dog
so maybe that's why she was so affected by this thing.

For her it was characterized as pacing the halls, refusal to go outside (after all the noise is louder out there), stress to the point of throwing up food, suddenly being woken up, severe personality change, and finally collapse from fatigue. Her poor dog spent 3 days in the vet while my sister scoured the yard and house looking for the cause of the problem. She only happened to find the source because the neighbor told her he bought the device to keep the noise down in the neighborhood because from his back yard it reached everyone on the block.

I won't say how the issue was solved other than it did involve the police.

These devices are 100% legal as far as I know just about everywhere. It's one of those things where the law has simply not caught up with technology.

But for whoever said it only works up to 75 feet. Behold the Dog Silencer Pro which corrects 300 feet but can only sense 75 feet.

I wouldn't have to worry about calling the police.

My neighbors would be more than willing to make the call for me after hour 7 of me practicing a comedy routine (BA-DUMP-BUMP "He'll be here all night ladies and gentlemen!!!")on a super-high wattage PA system. This would be after I spent all night building my stage over looking their backyard.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. The bark control would only be used when one or two were kenneled outside, and then usually only when we are otherwise occupied (working one of the other dogs, work, school, etc.). As they all live in the house with the rest of the family barking is not an issue for the most part. My only real concern is a neighbor calling animal control to report my barking dogs.
Steve- yes, the "quiet" command is a good one. Only one of my boys knows it (for him it's shush with an index finger on the lips, like when you ask a child to be quiet). I'm working on it with the other boy.

If you live in close quarters, the square footage that it's emitting to is a viable concern. The Bark Silencer Pro also states that it doesn't work through walls, so at least you can be pretty sure that they're not affected in the house.

We live in fairly close quarters - rural housing development, quarter acre lot. Too close for us, but, outside of winning the lottery, this will have to do. The house is small, so we actually have a lot of yard.

I read that in the FAQ but am hesitant to believe it. And what if windows are open?

I have several concerns about it and it's effect on all animals. If I am going to use something to correct my dog, I want to to be able to correct only the dog I want to correct and I also want to control the correction.
