I hear you and I have been making noise too. My Senator's office told me every thing I said made perfect sense and he then voted for SB250. I am afraid that it is all about campaign money. The "golden rule" - those that have the gold rule. Very sad!
Hi Mary and all,
With regards to SB 250 I recieved the following e-mail this morning. I posted the direct link for petpac. Also I wanted to let people know if you go to the
AKC website and click on Govt. Relations, then on Legislative Alerts it informs of all going on across the country. I hope this is helpfull, I had been out of state getting hips and elbows done on my bitch and missed the 28th. Please feel free to e-mail me. The address is at the end of the petpac letter. This is so very frustrating for all and it seems our crys fall upon deaf ears as your post would suugest.
Thank you for your time concerning this matter.
Kerri Ruane-Hasak
The fight to stop SB 250 is far from over. The pet sterilization bill will be up for a vote by the full Assembly in the next couple of days. It’s not too late for your voice to be heard. Call or email your Assemblymember today.
SB 250 is nothing more than a new tax on pet owners and it will result in more pets being killed. Many supporters of this legislation, including PETA and HSUS, want to eliminate pet ownership and they are targeting responsible breeders for extinction. We are facing a multi-million dollar campaign of deceit and lies by supporters of SB 250.
Supporters of SB 250 will stop at nothing to raise our taxes and strip us of our rights. Please contribute today so that PetPAC can continue to fight for you and your pets.
Sincerely,
Bill Hemby
Chairman

Mary, you all have been getting some support from down here in TX. I had my first taste of pet legislation this past session in TX. The people who introduced me to how these things work have also put out 'alerts' regarding the situation in CA.
Please, all, do more than sign the online petition - make a phonecall to the appropriate representatives and tell them you are NOT in support of SB 250 and WHY. A lot of the people who vote on these bills have absolutely no idea about what goes on in the pet world. All that they know is what the people who write these laws tell them, and of course that information will always be biased to encourage the respective person to vote in favor of the proposed legislation.
Thanks Jasmine for your response and explanation of calling
pertinent people and explaining reasons why we're against this legislation. The petition remains important for those of us not residing in Ca. to sign. The fear is if this passes in Ca. it will set a precedence and supporters of SB 250 will move rapidly.
As Mary said they have huge financial backing and will stop at nothing. It is so good to see people making others aware.

I'm not a breeder and am fairly new to this forum, but I am in California. I have been reading everything I can on this website and forum because I eventually want to get a working dog of my own to train in Schutzhund. I won't be in the position to get any dog until another year or so (all the more time to study!) but now I feel like I will NEVER find a good breeder if SB 250 passes (I plan on looking all over the country, but if it passes here I'm sure it will spread like wildfire).
When do we know if it has passed or not? It's just one more thing that infuriates me about PETA (and I'm vegetarian!) and how they just want to control everyone's animal business. Don't even get me started about how Ingrid Newkirk supports BSL.

Katie,
According to an e-mail I received Friday morning, SB250 has been on hold in the Assembly this week. And, they are currently adjourned for the Labor Day weekend. It is thought that Senator Torres may not YET have the support to pass it. Those opposed to the bill must keep up the pressure on the Assembly with phone calls, since there is a lot of money on the other side. It's very important to keep calling! If you are interested in defeating SB250, call your Assembly member. And if you can, call other Democratic members of the Assembly. (Republican members have been supportive of our position).

I will definitely get calling. I found this website (you're probably already aware of it) and it has a lot of really great information we can give to everyone else who are unaware of the way mandatory spay/neuter would affect working lines. It also has a preset letter you can send out to get our message across that we don't want this to pass!
