My husband called that vet the next morning and chewed him out, we did tell them that we will never be back and that we were going to tell everyone we knew about just how bab he was.
After talking to the emergency vet, we went home and looked it up on the internet, and man what a scary drug. This is a drug that they use to treat Anthrax. They should not give to a puppy under six months of age, and a large breed dog should not have it until after 18 months becasue it can cause joint and cartlidge damage. He not only did these things wrong but he the dosage he gave her was also wrong. According to the internet this should be prescribe at 5 to 7 mg. per lbs. she should have only been prescribed 250mg per day,her gave her 500mg twice a day. We are so glad that we only gave her one dose.
Wow...
If you have or know a lawyer, I would consider sueing for the e-vet bill. Or maybe small-claims court.
It sure does sound like down-right negligence on the 1st vet's part...

Yeah. I'm the type that always gives the benefit of the doubt. Maybe there was just a little mistake or miscommunication......
This doesn't sound like one of those. The vet should have known better.
The sad thing is that we have taken our 14yr old to the same clinic her whole life and they hired this new vet a year or so ago and we had never seen him before. I had them fax me his notes and he had added that we had gone to the emergency and in his notes he said that he thinks it was a reaction to the penicellin. But the e-vet said that if it was she would have had the reaction after the shot and not 8 hrs. later.
Let your experience be known to the owner of the clinic.
Unless the 'patients' let the boss in on how they're being treated.........nothing will change.
The vet that saw your dog was negligent plain and simple.
Wow, Cipro? The reason we don't give Cipro to human children is because of dog studies that showed joint and cartilage damage in puppies...In fact, there is now growing evidence in adult humans linking the antibiotics in this class with tendon rupture.
I would really have to have proof that my dog had to have Cipro and nothing else before my vet could talk me into using.
