You might ask about moving this appointment up if it's a suspected ACL tear. If it can't be moved up you would be well warned to keep your dog quiet until she can be seen to prevent strain in the other knee.
Thanks for posting. She and I just walk a little ways, lots of sniffing, no trotting if possible. She is in pain and Tramadol make her ill-- even 1/4 of a star\ndard pill--darn it.
I can't get the appointment any sooner with the doc I WANT to see her, so Thursday is the soonest I can get in. The other doc that is practicing there now is too jerky and hyper and loud and will totally set off Lucy's old habit of snapping and charging.
She is such a calm girl now, so agreement with MY doc is no muzzle in sight, I touch and present as much as possible, and very light sedation for the "painful" part of the physical exam.
I can't check out the video until I go to work Monday, but will check it first thing.
Thanks for the video. I watched it at work and now know what to expect from the vets. Lucy isn't nearly as lame as the dogs in the video, but I still keep her down to 30 - 50 ft walk to pee and poop.
I have searched Leerburg forum for ACL and other joint issues and found Sara's caution about spongy surfaces...it can aggrevate and/or cause a tear. Good to know. We don't have that sandy issue here, but it is good to know that as well as walking on cement, etc.
A question I have for all who know about this condition and LP (I never owned a dog with this type of problem, so I am a newbie at this): Do they exhibit an "inability" or "awkwardness" stepping backwards?
Will bring it up to the vet, but curious now for an answer if anyone has one. Tomorrow is the big day...I hope it isn't torn.
Both ACLs are fine! Just a bum knee that went back into place at the vets. yay! (And now I feel stupid...relieved, but stupid.)
We can now go back to walking and trotting, but no hard turns.
