Vet said 1- wasn't raw diet that only has a risk of samonela and he hasn't been on it long enough for that blah blah, 2-not worming 3 not roundup, roundup would cause kidney and some other organ damage and it would take longer, he was really yelping in the office, I cried and prayed the whole way home and intermittenly every hour after that. He survived living on the streets of Gary IN and little frostbitten ears and a z shaped half of a little tail, so he's a fighter. Anyhoot the vet called and said he had a large bloody diarrihea and is no longer acting as if his abdomen hurts. Re xrayed and no longer a large gaseous mass area on xrays Gave me three otions one involved sending home with meds and doing a wait and see. Another was Barium, the third was blood work which would indicate if there still was a blockage. I had him do blood work. I'm not taking him home until I know what's wrong with him for sure. Don't like the wait and see if he gets better option. Time to look in the want adds for a second job to pay for this......

1. QUOTE: Vet said- wasn't raw diet that only has a risk of samonela END QUOTE
Get this vet on Cindy's vet list!
2. You chose the way I'd have chosen too, because I'd want to know if there was some kind of infection. I don't think it can tell you that there is or is not a blockage unless the blockage is causing an infection, however. Can you detail that part?
The vet (Dr. Norton- Barden's animal clinic Lowell IN) said as I was picking him up the only risk was samonela to the humans, then he has to culture the dog because the humans didn't take precautions. He didn't test positive for whip worms, it was his stepsister. I saw the xrays there's this huge gas area throughout his entire abdomen, then he exploded (poopwise)and the next xray it's way down. He's on special canned food and flora and anti biotics then after 5 days I can start phasing him back to raw. The blood work would have shown certain enzymes or levels. His only levels that were above normal, indicated dehydration. His white blood cells were up , hence the flora and antibiotics. I asked him if it was a kibble block and he said we would be able to see it on the xray. He said everything was passing through, but there could verywell still be a foreign object and it could cause blockage, he wanted to do a Barium next because there was a possibility he might ubstruct but there was also a good chance he wouldn't. I opted to take him home. But if he repeats the painful behavior he's going to go right to exploratory surgery. He's playing with Gabby and has diarrihea, but he's also very tired. He's a hoover I made everyone pick things up and threatened their lives if I saw anything the dog can eat.
It's called EN. He's also on Neo-Meth-Val syrup. and Forti flora. Allegedly this food is the antibiotic for the GI. He was afraid to drink last night. When he vomitted yesterday he had chugged water. This morning he was playing and came in to drink I had him stop from chugging and he did when I said "Enough". I have to call though cuz he's laying down outside a lot and that is how this all started. I can hear his stomache gurgling and he's passing gas. I guess it's good if it's coming out and not staying in there. It was pudding poop. He hasn't gone today, vet said he might not go until Saturday after the build up and explosion may have cleaned him out.I guess. Oh and the levels for dehydration on the bloodwork were only slightly elevated so he was only slightly dehydrated. He only vomitted twice and once was in the car on the way to the vet before I got him to the vet. They gave him fluids sub-q while he was there. That whole yelping thing told me not to mess around. *As for the neighbor he grew up on a farm and is one who's often said to me "It's just a dog." He's also hubby's good friend.
I think he just had a bit of a back up from too much bone and have been advised that EN foodis way too high in carbs, I am going to "cut" it with boneless ground raw chicken breast so I can get him back on raw ASAP. I will continue to watch , but I just think this vet, while not against raw, is not as informed as he can be about it.
