.....they do not have a right to an opinion. Don't listen to their nonsense and most definitely do not explain yourself. Crass as it may be "Shut up" works for me.
I agree with Kelly, but, if it was mine here is what I would do, whatever bowl you feed the dog from, throw it away, from now on the dog ONLY eats from YOUR hand, morning noon & night if that dog eats anything, it comes from your hand. If you are home most of the time the dog will follow you everywhere you go. watch more on the engagement video, stop most of your obedience commands until you have 100% total engagement. Your dog will forget your sons even exist after a week or so of this "follow me I have food" game. Then teach the NO! I drop food on the floor & hard verbal NOOO! if they stop going for it & look at you, quickly mark YES & food reward.
The NO will be important, if someone else tells the dog to do something that is wrong you will enforce 2 things in the dogs mind, 1) dont listen to that person 2)whatever they told you is bad dont do it, & 3rd, I have treats when you listen to me )
You can do this in no time, but basically you need to be the walking talking food dispenser & win the heart mind & stomach of your dog over the other humans in the house.
Linda,
As a disclaimer; I'm not nor have I ever been a parent.
But, what kind of place are you running? The dog sounds better behaved then your chilren.
16, 18, and 20 years old!!!??? And they don't listen to your wishes?!!! And I may add, wishes that in no way really has any bearing on their life or interests.
To heck with that.
My house. My rules.
It's a very simple fix, just say, 'Leave the dog alone or go get your own house and your own dog. This one is mine'.

Time for the wise guys to grow up.
Randy, kids only listen and do what the parents ask for a short period of time... usually from about ages three to thirteen, after that you are just a doddering old fool for they know all and you are horribly out of touch and behind the times
