Thanks, Connie, Meredith, Barbara my last Gsp passed of lymphoma. I got him at 9wks old from a breeder in kansas he is 1 in under the bottom of standard, but for agility it works out better as you see he has lots of drive. When he is in the kennel perfectly calm dosent bark a gentleman. I have fooled around throughout the years with training alittle. I usually quit after a month or 2 never anything serious. I do try to read and watch as much as possible. I have done a few monthes of foundation agility with him and i am practicing rally 1 time a week with someone. When you view the you tube vids if you havent done so you can look under more from kumate i thik is what it says and i have a few more clips of when he was 4mths old then a few of him retrieving car keys and a pill bottle etc about 6 mths ago. If you cant get them i will link them here.
Well, for someone who "fools around a little" you have a great "knack" for the hobby and a sharp little pup! I bet he would be awesome on an agility field! Really good job and the video is a hoot to watch.
opps... meant to say I'm sorry about your other dog as well.
I would like to achieve that level of confidence and enjoyment with my puppy (9 weeks old now) and will work on it, hope you may share your experience?
I watched the videos and see that you have an eye contact with the dog as you make him work. How have you done it despite having the treats bag at your waist ? TIA
As a bit of constructive criticism, one improvement would be having him hold positions longer.
We can often fall into the habit of rewarding too quickly, which creates a dog that has problems with duration, especially in the down/stay at a distance.
