Take him for walkes around your backyard. Young pups shouldn't walk too far anyway. Take him where you usually don't see other dogs. Like the middle of a field & carry him out there before you put him down. Most owners walk their dogs around the paramiter of fields & not out in the center it it. Parvo is a serious illness for a pup & can live in the ground for something like 7 years & usually only effects pups although adult dogs can carry the disease.
What I stated above in an earlier post, is what I did with 3 pups in the last 6 years with no issues. I carried my pups out to & from the middle of the fields, that I train in, until I couldn't carry them any more because they were too heavy. I did vaccinate for parvo at 12 weeks old & never again. But I do periodically run titers. Parvo is serious if a pup contracts it...but I do think that being careful & giving a good healthy diet (I feed raw) does help keep the dogs healthy & better able to fight off illness. I will say that even my neighborhood ( & I know all the dogs owners & their pets are well-cared for) I would not walk a puppy down the street. Just too many dogs being walked there. Adults don't usually contract Parvo is it basically a puppy disease, but the adults can carry it. I feel that if you are in a VERY prone area, then maybe stricter rules would apply for your pup. This is just what I did. There are alot of woods & wildlife around me & the fields that I train in, but maybe I have just been lucky. I don't know.
Vax for Parvo, or anything for that matter, has to be a decision made by you based on your own circumstances. When my friends pup got Parvo, I posted a thread about it. The pup had Parvo vaccination at 7 or 8 weeks before she got the pup. She didn't do any more boosters as she does minimal, too. Long story short, pup had Parvo, recovered, the vet wanted the pup brought back a month later for booster for Parvo (duh?). She didn't take the pup in for that.
The research I did indicated that there are several windows of time that a pup is vunerable for Parvo whether or not it is vaccinated.
So, do your own research and make the decision for what you can live with. Be very vigilant in watching for any signs (remember, my friends pup had been vaccinated but no boosters) and I think the advice that Anne gave is good.
Carry pup to middle of field, etc.
Good luck. I didn't intend to create any extra fear but just a warning.
