Oh you guys thank you so much! I knew I could come here and get the understanding I so need right now. It brings a smile to my face to know that others see what I saw in Bruno. It fills my heart with joy and brings tears to my eyes to hear that you could tell my Bruno loved me and was a happy dog. Me and my son are going to look at a couple females tomorrow. I feel conflicted about this; guilty but yet sort of excited to redirect some of my feelings. I just have such a big hole in my heart. I'm not trying to replace him but just want desperately to fill the void he left. Is this wrong or too soon?
I'm so sorry for your loss, Lori. It's terrible that some folks don't understand how deep the grieving process is with those of us who are close to our animals. I still cry when something reminds me of dogs I lost years ago. Take all the time you need, and again, I'm so sorry.
I don't know how everyone else feels, but if you've got all this extra love to give then go ahead and get another. You aren't "replacing" him. Every dog is an individual. A female will be a totally different experience. Maybe that's what you need.
He sounded like such a wonderful boy. I don’t know that any time is right but it seems he was taken away from you far too soon. Having just lost one of my most treasured companions a little over a month ago, I feel your pain – it cuts hard and deep. The love and energy of my 3 remaining boys has really helped to see me through this. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
Lori,
I am so very sorry for your profound loss. I know all to well as I too have that hole in my heart.
It takes a lot of time, and you never get over it, just learn to live again, with it.
Take the time you need to grieve. You will know when the right time is to be able to get a new and different dog.
The stages of grief are many types of feelings, and each one needs to be felt and acknowledged, it is just my humble opinion, but it really helps to allow yourself to go through that in your own time.
No doubt the hardest part of life.
Take good care, I am thinking of you.

My thoughts as well, Lori. Take all the time you need, and ignore anyone who doesn't get it. I don't consider grieving up for much discussion anyway - it's ENTIRELY personal, every single case (canine, human, other), and we all deserve the time and space to do it our way. Bruno looked like an immensely happy, well loved (and loving), big, beautiful boy, and my heart heart goes out to you for your loss... he was far too young, but how lucky you were to share your life with such a special soul for those 6+ years. {hugs}
It is never easy to loose your 'best friend'. My heart goes out to you. Bruno will always have a special place in your heart, no matter how many more dogs share your life with. They each have their own specialness to bring to us. RIP Bruno.
