if anything be glad your SPCA actually responds to calls.
Think of how many times the complaint is more than justified (like the skeletal horses) and how we hope and expect that AC will help the helpless animal(s).
or, the ones that people watch animals starve to death and don't want to intrude (it's not their business)so they never call. Even tho some people call just to be a jackass, so what...if you are taking care of them, it will be noted and they will move on. If they really do think you aren't caring for them (even if they think that due to ignorance) Im glad they had the courage to call....even if it ends up unfounded.
I think it can be a nusance to decent animal owners but it's one I am willing to tolerate in hopes they do save a few from the real A holes out there.

I made a call once on a neighbor. I had not yet met them when they moved in next door about a month before. At one point, the 2 dogs, were outside day and night for about a week. Some night time barking was going on, which drew my attention to them. I put a note on the door. But, it still appeared that they were being neglected in some way. Anyway, I called animal control. The officer found my note on the door still, checked on the dogs, whose water was frozen (it was winter at the time). And left a citation. He told me to call him back if I continued to be concerned. Luckily it was a mild winter and these dogs obviously spent a great deal of time outside-they had thick coats.
As it turns out, the neighbors had been out of town and left the dogs (not the best plan), there was supposed to be someone checking on them who didn't, I guess. These people did come by and apologize to me (about the barking) and to explain.
Those poor dogs were always out in the yard during the day. Not really exercised. But fed and watered. Minimal existence...

The biggest downer around false complaints (or complaints by neighbors who just want to be a p.i.t.a.) is the waste of time and energy; resources better spent on legitimate concerns. I used to answer for animal control, and it was horrible how many calls came from neighbors who just wanted to make trouble for each other.
I wouldn't appreciate the intrusion, but if someone called the ASPCA on me, it would only make me look good and the caller look like a jerk. I think I could live with that.

I had the RSPCA called on me for some reason once. My dogs were apparently starving, fighting, lame etc. I just laughed, showed in the inspector and made her a coffee.

When I was active with local animal rescue, we got those calls all the time. We always check up on the dogs, but it's probably safe to say 90% of the calls we got were angry *relatives*. We would never consider revealing the complainant's identification, for fear people wouldn't call when there really was a problem.
Don't worry about it at all. And I agree, be happy your SPCA actually followed-up on the call. If they came to my house I'd even send them a thank-you note for responding and showing me respect while here. That can be a rarity, too :-(

We have the Fourth Amendment for a reason. Use it or lose even more of it.
Personally, I wouldn't be embarrassed. I'd be upset that the neighbor didn't have the huevos to come speak to me first but, I quite honestly have more important issues in my life than what my neighbors think of me.

typical dog person, many of us spend more time with our dogs than people, or want to anyway.

I sort of feel that the individual that called could have come and talked to me if there was an issue.
I work nights and (try to) sleep days. I keep all the dogs in the house with me. I usually stay outside with them or do random chores in the back of the house so I can keep an eye/ear of them. We have a huge stray dog problem and my dogs can be vocal about them. I don't allow extended barking as I can't stand it myself. I am mostly concerned since I have a problem with an ex that has poisoned my dogs in the past. I am afraid he may have found me again. Reason I think this now is my BC is all of a sudden weak wobbly and pale and going to the vet first thing in the morning. I am worried something was left in the kennel and I missed it.

Now that is an issue I'd be concerned about. I wish you and your dog the best of luck.

Thank you,
update on the dog. We gave her a blood transfusion since she was just not recovering. She quit eating, etc. She is now feeling better (probably more the prednisolone than anything)but still a little pale. Poor little workaholic that she is, I brought her outside to just chill with me for a bit (and pee to her heart's content - I hate steroids!!lol) and she snuck off to go round up the ducks. She's a Border Collie. Goofy girl. She now has to chill on leash. We are not sure of what happened to her, no internal/eternal parasites, clotting ok, just severly anemic, and very thin. She is eating better but has lst another pound. I have been researching a raw diet but am afraid to switch hef while she is so far down, although I have added raw liver to her kibble (chicken soup for the dog lover's soul dry food)to try to help build up her blood count.
I haven't heard any more from the SPCA, but, if nothing else, I have some awesome vet bills to show him to prove that I am at least trying to take care of them. *sigh*
Thanks for 'listening.'
