Well, come on guys, you make me crazy!
It may have been a paid ad. But do you really think he paid that organization to induct him into their hall of fame?
If it were someone from this forum being inducted into the hall of fame there would be kudos all over the place.
I don't belong to the organization personally, but when people are looking for dog trainers for PETS that is a legitimate place to look for competent professional trainers, so Iv'e been told.
Isn't Cesar a member?
Lisa, I don't think you are crazy and this post certainly isn't making me or anyone else crazy. I just thought your "whatever" reaponse was a bit junvenile, but nothing to get riled up about. (In hindsight, I shoulda' responded with "Yeah??? So what!" and seen how many sophomoric comebacks we could all come up with! )
You knew folks wouldn't trip all over themselves about this link - as you said when you began the thread - but you are certainly entitled to be as impressed with whomever you believe is worthy of that admiration. I just don't get the frustration that we are all not jumping on board with you.
Everyone has different criteria for measuring or judging what makes someone professional or not...

Lisa, yes you may have know that you'd get that reply, but you posted the ad anyway.......so what's the point?
As I've said before, I started my dog training in the Greater Cleveland area, I belonged to several dog clubs in the region.
And I saw several people go to National K9 to become "trainers" and not one of them came back improved - most of them had learned just enough to be dangerous, and they actually didn't even realize how little they knew.
Could they be pet trainers? Sure.....but they all came back thinking that they were qualified to do Police K9/SchH/protection training also.
And they definately *were* not qualified for that type of training, despite their claims.
I saw a lot of hype, and nothing to back it up. And I've continued to see that exact problem with the graduates from National K9 ever since then.
And when I ran my own K9 business, a resume from a National K9 graduate wasn't even considered, and that's a shame.
Lisa, you may well be a great trainer - you give pretty good advice here as long as you stay out of the protection discussions. But I still have yet to meet a skilled graduate from National K9 face-to-face, and when you considered how long that I've been training dogs, that's saying something.
Here's hoping that you're the exception to the rule! Cheers!

Will,
I do agree with you regarding the Police K9 and Protection training, you need experience in these fields and when you graduate from K9 you do not have the skill or experience, only some basics. To my knowledge, I have only made one post regarding that realm of training, and that was when I first came to the board. After posting, I realized that I was inexperienced in the field.
Barbara,
I made that comment, one because I was in a hurry and it was short and secondly, yeah I knew it was juvenile and silly. So naah naah (Here's another one for ya!)
Ingrid,
I don't care to debate with an attorney,somehow I think I'll lose!

Okay, as an adult, can I laugh at this? Because I'm laughing at this... out loud...

As a past graduate of National K-9 School for Dog Trainers in Columbus, OH, I would like to post this forum with a description of Scott Mueller, the founder of NK9, from my perception.
After passing the six-week training class I felt that Scott and the staff at NK9 gave me a very strong foundation to build off of. Scott told me that my education didn't stop after six weeks. He encouraged the class to continue to learn and fine tune training approaches. Scott made sure the class was fun, educational, and even a little comical. I know without the knowledge and education NK9 provided me with, I would not be able to help my clients solve difficult behavior problems. Let alone the chance to provide a client with a protection or handicap assistance service dog.
This is a man who is a huge contributor to the canine world. He has dedicated his life to training the future trainers of tomorrow and as a result touches the lives of many dogs and will continue to do so.
Scott let all the graduates of my class know he is always there as a source to reference when challenged by a dog or to just share an interesting training story.
My money says his appreciation for being inducted into the IACP's Hall of Fame speaks for itself.
