http://thebca.org/Bulldogs%20and%20Summer.pdf If the dog can't swim be it lab or sqwat little chi why not just use a life vest and see if the dog has the technique and still sinks like a rock anyways.
That first bulldog looked like it was just torturous. 2nd bulldog seemed not too happy when the person they were swimming to got out and ditched them. And the pug seemed to been trying to get all the others swimming and failed. Kind of like the streaking scene in Oldschool.
Steve, you are link master today. What's up with that? Thanks for the laughs.
Melissa, that pugs can't swim is ridiculous. My ex had a pug like that who after about 10 seconds would just sink like a rock. Same with a few bulldogs. How I see it though, most of those dogs didn't realize it was a pool.

Dogs that dont have a higher fat ratio like labs, arent as bouyant. They have to learn how much effort it takes to stay afloat.
And although this may sound weird, dogs with proportionately bigger/heavier heads and/or shorter legs and/or small paws can all be at a disadvantage.
I know a lot of Pugs. Some can swim and some can't. One of mine, who is very tall (long-legged) for a Pug and who has big front paws and not a Bulldog-type big heavy head, swims as well (for his smaller size) as the GSD.
Take another look at your first link. Front and center, there's Brodie. Swimming with a frisbie in his mouth. The point of the pamphlet is to use caution. Its not saying Bulldogs CAN'T swim.
Like Connie pointed out and the bulldog club is saying, they are at a disadvantage because of their build, but they can swim. I didnt need to read anything on it, I've seen one swimming in the Pacific Ocean. Its good to put the books down and look around once and a while.
It may, like other things that are easier when you introduce it to a puppy. I think some dogs will never figure it out or learn how, but it doesnt mean theres a breed that can't.
