That is part of the problem, for the most part the cat is going to do what the cat darn well pleases
One of our dogs really loves the cat to the point of boderline stalking. The cat ignores her as well as the others. One of our dogs really dislikes the cat, and has advised the cat of this via growl and moving....the cat's response is to continually try to curl up next to him. I'm at a loss of what to do. The cat doesn't listen and not sure I want to eliminate the dog growl/warning. The cat has a lot of bells on his collar now so he at least can't 'sneak' up on the dog. Jennifer have you tried bells on for the cat while he's in the house?
On a good note, Loki has been happily bringing me his large kong squeeky ball and his new monkey rope toy all night, and when my husband got home from work he greeted him at the door with his monkey toy for a little gane of keep away. He seems really happy and relaxed all the time now

Maybe the cat will learn?

This sounds really similar to my situation! I don't know that a bell would help, He isn't sneaking it is more of a rub flop rub flop meowing sort of lovefest. I think the thing that sends him over the edge is when the cat tries to knead him.
I don't correct for warning growling, and I don't correct for an air snap either, just actual contact !
This cat is totally lovable, but also really ridiculous. Last night he wanted me to hold him so he jumped up on the stool last night and kept wrapping his paws around my neck until I finally picked him and he pushes himself into me and will cling on if I try to put him down.
