Lynne, I've gone in her mouth as far as she'll let me - the doctor didn't check it at all when I took her in two weeks ago. She just did x-rays immediately. I'll have her check as well as ask her to check about TMJ and anti-inflammatory drugs. Thanks for the link - I had never heard of TMJ before.
Lenka, I'm American, but have lived here in Estonia for 17 years (moved here shortly after we married at the age of 23). So even though I'm used to the way things run here, I still get surprised by many things also. Different culture, different mentality. I do my best to not get frustrated, and when things are concerning ME I just let it slide. But when it comes to the health and well-being of my dog, I have been more frustrated than anything. This vet we are going to now is the best vet we have found here. We go back in the morning for follow-up x-rays. I have my list ready for everything I will ask them to check.
I haven't been here in about a week, but I wanted to update you. I took Star back in for x-rays last Tuesday. The vet said her lungs are better, but still not 100% clear, so she put her back on antibiotics for round 2. She wants her to come back next week (after 14 days) for more x-rays. She said she won't stop until Star's lungs are completely clear. She said the yawning problem is most likely because her lymph nodes are swollen and it's painful to yawn. Star wouldn't let her go in her mouth, but she felt around and listened to her breathing with her stethoscope. She said the runny eyes could be an allergic reaction, although they aren't usually a reaction to Augmentin, and gave me some eye drops to put in her eyes. Her eyes still get pussy in the mornings when she first wakes up, but then are clear for the rest of the day until the next morning. Her cough seems to have gone away, and she seems to be yawning a bit better although sometimes she still stops short. (So it's not a case of not being able to yawn, it is just uncomfortable for her to yawn.)
She has tons of energy and is playful on our walks, but I'm very careful about not having her out in the rain or and not leaving her out in the cold while we are not home. I'm just thankful I can see a change in her and that she's getting better. It's been 3 weeks / almost a month already and it seems like a LONG time for a dog to be sick - that's the part I don't like - seeing my baby not feeling well. I'm just glad I found a vet that won't give up until she sees Star 100% well.
