Hi all, well im stumped.
Been away working with my four year old intact rott for two weeks. Just got back and hes going crazy with my bernese md, like shes in heat. However she is 17 months old and was spayed 5 months ago after having pyometra after her first season.
Now we knew she was in season from Boston's behaviour, and when she had the infection again from his interest. Hes going mad trying to mount her as if she was in full season so have seperated them.
But now shes barren what could be causing this interest?
Any chance she has a UTI?
Years ago, we has a GR that was spayed but the vet missed a piece of ovary, for the rest of her life she had false prgnancies. Never a true heat, but because she was still producing at least a small amount of hormones, she 'thought' she was pregnant. She was an excellent mother to the stuffed animals and fuzzy slippers she stole from us. lol
Maybe that's what you all are going through. Hope not. lol
Maybe have the vet check her urine just to make sure she's not got an infection.
She was spayed 5 months ago. When was she in heat the last time? Has it been about 6 months? If so, maybe there is just a little bit of tissue left over that Boston (cool name, btw) notices. (I wouldn't go sueing the vet over it, the body is a weird and wonderful thing, sometimes tissue grows where it isn't exactly supposed to.)
If her vulva is swollen and she shows some interest (flagging, standing) then it's likely a bit of ovarian tissue remains and she is in fact in heat.
If she shows no interest at all, then urinary tract infection/vaginitis is likely.
Another possible thing is that your dog has contact with a woman who uses a vaginal estrogen cream for menopausal symptoms and the dog has picked up enough
estrogen from this contact to affect her. Sounds wacky, but this occurs.
