A not Christmas, but Easter story: My nieces were living with us, so I had a 5,4,3,and a 2 yr old for Easter.
We colored 4 dozen eggs, a box for each child. Then the deal was, that the Easter Bunny would hide them, and we would collect them the next day.
So, after putting the 4 kids to bed, I hid all the eggs. Guess I was just so wore out from working + 4 kids that I never thought.
Tudor, the Basset Hound, found and ate everyone one, shells included.
I thought she might die,but she didn't.
Jamie, your dog is really something special. I love to read your posts!

I had a Newfoundland that did that as a kid. Imagine my surprise when I get home from church, Daddy said the Easter Bunny was already here, so I start looking for eggs. Can't find any. Dad keeps pointing likely places (Oh, I think I might have seen him put one under that upside down water bowl...) Nope. Nothin. 3 dozen eggs, and a VERY stinky dog.
I'm really glad to hear my childhood dog was not the only one ever to do that! The next year we graduated to plastic eggs, much to the Newfies dismay.
My aunt's Cocker Spaniel took a leak on the Christmas tree. He let out a howl and did a back flip across the room. After that he wouldn't even go in the room till the tree was down.
This was 50+ yrs ago when the lights were big and HOT!
Don't know if he got jolted or just spooked by the loud pop.
No recent stories and only sort of Christmas tree related:
Years ago our family had a Maltese who absolutely would go gaga over his presents. The first christmas we had him my mother knew to not put anything under the tree (i.e. See's Candy or dog biscuits) that had any kind of odor the dog could detect, but she didn't think there was any reason not to place other gifts under the tree. Well, one day Shimo (Maltese) was being very quiet and that generally meant he was doing something he shouldn't so mother went looking for him. And, she found him in the living room with all his presents around him working to unwrap them. From that time on his presents were hidden where he could not get to them until placed under the tree Christmas Eve after he went to bed.
And, yes, on Christmas Day he always opened his own gifts.

I had a little Shar Pei at that time who was absolutely bullet-proof house broken. .... an ice storm came thru, making driving home impossible. After nearly 48 hours, we were able to creep and slide our way home. .... I grabbed the paper towels and went looking for the mess to clean up. I looked, and looked and looked some more .... I finally found the wet spot. On the Christmas tree skirt, as close to the tree as she could get!
Can't just just imagine imagine that doggy thought process: "Oh, thank goodness they installed this emergency urinal before taking off for 48 hours!"
