As training director, Will was always a strong advocate of the e collar.
Once is a while they even moved from the handler to the canine.

I think you should start with the housemate and re-iterate your previous instructions to her.
when you aren't there, is the crate in your room?
i know from past experience no matter how many times you tell or try to explain to other people how to act & react around the dog, unless they share the same training methods as you do, they won't follow the instructions.
And as much as it sucks, if you aren't around i would keep the room-mates accessibility to the dog to the bare minimum.
If the crate is out in the living area while you aren't home, it might be time to move it to your bedroom.
I don't know how many times i've heard "Tucker is a great dog! So well behaved!!!" then in the next breath say "oh, your mean...let him lick my face or jump all over me, I don't mind"
well, I do cause not everyone wants an 80lb dog jumping on them and licking their face!
Or, oh look at him...he's sad...let him up on the couch!

Oh dear. I already walk her like two hours a day! Along with running her.
That backpack is getting ordered tommorow!
What kind of mental exercise is she getting? IMO, when you've got a young healthy working breed dog all walking really does is build endurance.
Do you do any tracking or scent work with her? Any other kinds of training?

Wow, it's like we lead parallel lives! It's funny how nobody makes the connection between good behavior and having boundaries.
I second the mental exercise, ESPECIALLY this time of year. I've become very creative about providing adequate physical exercise in the winter, but even so I have found that dogs can get cabin fever-y without plenty to think about. It's a great time to teach fun pet tricks just for the heck of it.
You might want to teach the roomie some basic obedience as well

I try to work mental exercise in to everything we do. On walks we stop off to do fast OB, or ill have her do jumps, or track toys and food. She loves jumping so I'm thinking about looking for a place to do agility.
She still gets mouthy when she's worked up so I include positive obedience into all games. She loves it.
No matter what I do she ends up kind of understimulated on days I work. I understand that and I do my absolute best.

You might consider rally, too. Although I don't remember there being any jumping (was ony exposed to it for a short period of time) it definitely will give her some mental stimulation.

Unfortunately her crate won't fit in my room.
Honestly, I feel bad crating her at this point.
She had gotten so good that she earned the right to be in the house when I'm out. The only problem we had was barkng out the windows, so I could close the doors to the rooms so she couldn't see out the front of the house and she was an angel. I actually left dog cookies on the low shelf in in the pantry one day and she didn't even touch them.
I really do think its a matter of inconsitency and pack structure. The dog will run into her room and steal something and the roommate will be like "Oh, its OK. My dog would have destroyed that." Or she will laugh and say something like "She loves make up brushes!"
She doesn't get that the dog doesn't respect her.
I don't mind being responsible, but I don't know that I'm going to be able to live with the dog tethered to me or crated indefefinitely. I had finally gotten to where we could just live together. This sucks.

Unless you want the dog to hear only you; Lauren you could tell the room mate, "that IF they want to interact with the dog, this is how you do it. My dog my rules, this is the command, this is what I expect from the command."
Train the room mate on how to work with the dog instead of ignoring the animal. And ignoring doesn't sound like it's working anyways.
Sounds like a twofer to me.

Sorry Lauren, i just assumed you were crating her when you weren't there.
I agree it's tough when the dog has earned the right to freedom, but what is the lesser of the 2 evils???
When i lived with a room mate with my previous dog, i never left him out if i wasn't there. He stayed in my bedroom, un-crated of course. But that way i knew for sure no one was undoing what i took years to do obedience wise.
If the room mates on board with your style of training then try to include them. but i have always found that very few people are regimented enough to follow the rules when im not around.
They don't realize that letting the dog get away with something once or twice can totally undo the training it took from you to get them to that point.
Alot of people are just too lazy to keep it up. And they give in figuring its easier to just let the dog do what it wants.

I've tried to teach her. She tries to do it. She just dosent get the importance of consistency no matter how I put it.
My pup is just not easy. Compared to dogs like Fetz and Erika she is a softy, but she is not your average house pet. She a fantastic companion so long as the structure is right, but she is drivey and has a dominant streak. I'm sure you can completely get what I'm saying.
I've basically had to become a dog trainer to live with her. If it weren't fo finding leerburg when she was very young and reading a million books I probably would not have been able to keep her.
I have learned so much because of her and I love her beyond description. We have an amazing bond.
Maybe we need to be a pack of two again.
