I'm envious. We used to do a lot of RV trips with our dogs, not so much now with gas prices and a rig that gets six miles to the gallon! The Florida Keys are a great place for a getaway. Have a safe and fun trip.
Actually the original Sloppy Joes was where Capt Tony's use to be, don't know if the bar is still there or not. That was actually the place Hemingway hung out.
Capt Tony was a character. After I left the keys I saw he was elected mayor of Key West. That had to be something. ROFL
It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember that they saved the bar, and made the rest of Sloppy Joe's around it.???
Do I have that right Betty, or did I just dream that?
Honestly, it was so long ago that I don't remember or not.
Crap... my memory is for beans!
I like the fact that it feels just like an island get away without actually having to fly. We briefly lived in Miami for a short while and I really thought the Keys were the best part of Florida.
No offense to any native Miamian's but I love laid back and easy going over the city of Miami.
Wish I could have seen it before the cruise ship days.
I can picture it being exactly that.... a slice of heaven!
Gosh, I suddenly have a craving for a margarita!

Last time I visited the Keys I could of cried. Literally.
When I lived there unless you were into smuggling and had some kind of a business dispute it was a very safe place to live. Oh, and you didn't investigate strange happenings on the water at night. It was expensive but you cut back here and there on things like shoes and it was affordable.
Now, I don't know how anyone can really afford to live there....
I curse the day the government sold the old Navy bases/annexes in Key West. That brought all those yucky condo's where the bases were and the cruise ships.
It was a majestic base too. Was like stepping back in time to WW 2. Had a lot of character.
Wow how sad. I too was there many years ago and have not been back sense.
But I would have loved to have seen it back in the early days when it was less commercialized. Majestic, that is an awesome description, I can almost picture it.
