They are moving so that particular neighbor won't be a problem anymore, but she won't keep the dog. She's too afraid that it could hurt the kids...and they won't put in the time for obedience. The dog's only chance is that I take her and put in a lot of work in obedience and then find someone capable of handling her. Which I am willing to do, I would like to give her a chance if I think she can be rehabilitated.
But, if the dog did repeat the behavior in her new home, would I be liable because I knew the dog had done this before? Can I have the new owner sign a release of liability? And how would I screen out the weirdo idiots who would want her BECAUSE she has shown aggression in the past?
Thanks for all your input so far.

Thanks for all your input so far. These questions really need to be answered by your lawyer. You mention you have a business, talk to him about it. If s/he doesn't know, maybe s/he can get you to someone who will.
I am with Vancamp about the dog would most likely be fine with the family, but I am concerned about other children who come over especially since you say that the meter man was ignoring her.
At any rate, you need to make her feel guilt for what she has done. Too many people do not stress to people that THEY (intentionally or not) caused this situation. If they do not feel any guilt, they will go out and repeat the cycle again with another dog... Somehow it always gets blamed on the dog. When someone calls me to give up a dog, I do this. I also ask that they get the dogs health care up to date, and give me a 'donation' to sustain the dog. Stress the word RESPONSIBILITY.
I am thinking a goldfish may be a better choice. Less responsibility.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> I agree.
I don't think that they will get another dog. And she feels very guilty (only because the dog was out...not for allowing the neighbor to be such an a** and treat her dog that way).
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll let you guys know what I decide and how it turns out.
Thanks again
Elisabeth
