Tigers....TIGERS?! WHY would you want pet tigers!?!?!?!
poor animals....
This story got me interested in the idea actually. After reading 6 or so articles about it I kind of want to! Quite an undertaking to do it responsibly though, maybe if I hit it big one day
I'm sorry...interested in ??? Owning a tiger?? Tigers aren't meant to be pets. They are meant to be a wild animal. Please don't confuse the two and believe that you can curtail their instincts. It's not a good idea IMO.

As a little follow-up to this story the "wonderful" ASPCA was going to take these animals straight to the Houston kill shelter and wash their hands of them,(which btw, they always do, meantime using those great images of the BIG LETTERS ON THE BACK OF THE JACKETS to generate money!) while Rotty rescue groups nationwide pleaded for them. Only after INTENSE public scrutiny and many questions, were the dogs released to rescue.
I'll find the links documenting the sequence of events, but don't have time right now.

That is really disheartening to say the least.
The poor animals always suffer from those who recklessly take on so many animals all at once, not to mention taking on very large wild animals, like the tigers and mountain lions.
This is the kind of thing that makes me really angry and sad.
I wish that in the case of people who hoard, that there would be incredibly harsh penalties, including jail time.
I would be very interested in those links Becky, when you have the time.

I do, too, Joyce. I do, too. At the very least they should spend time being subjected to the same horrible treatment they inflicted on these poor animals.

Oh my gosh... over 230 dogs - not to mention the other animals. Deeeeeep sigh. Can you even begin to imagine the quality of life those poor animals led? And here most of us feel guilty if our dogs are left alone an hour longer than we intended... How horrible.
Unfortunately I can. Prosecuted a hoarder case involving nearly 300 dogs. They are difficult cases all the way around.

Meh. Previous text removed. I've had enough dog politics for the month.

Becky - I hope when you have time, you can find and post the documents following this seizure. If indeed that is the case about the dogs going straight to euthanasia, I would love to write a letter. With all the funding they get from their TV show, it's horrible to find out that if the dogs were indeed healthy and sound enuf for adoption, that they would be denied the chance,
Ingrid - did you win your case? I know our sheriff, while too many cases to prosecute here, has devoted a whole floor of the new jail to animals being kept in seizure cases and makes the prisoners care for them (which I'm sure is a privileged position, as well as work at the county pound). Out here there are so many reports that the only ones actually acted on are where the animals are dead and dying.
Michael B. - Have you ever seen the show Fatal Attractions? It shows all the cases where people purchased exotic animals and tried to make pets out of them only to slip up years down the road and be killed by their pets. Not a good idea, unless, of course, as you say, you get rich and can start an animal sanctuary.

People have all kinds of critters. I've see mountain lions, zebras, elk, white tail deer, fallow deer, reindeer, buffalo, wolves, antelope, all sorts of cats that are not domestic, snakes of all types some huge pythons, the blond ones are cool - weird rodents(no fur,no eyes), peculiar swine, and tons of parrots --- and I'm in the middle of the country in a ghastly climate.( We had a dart gun.) I can't imagine the variety near the borders.
Our practice refused to see bear, monkeys and skunks: I personally refused to treat
ferrets, which I find creepy.

About ten years ago someone living in my father's town had a pet cobra escape. The pet was kept illegaly and still had his venom.
The snake was found in an elementary school. Thank God no one was hurt.
Exotic pets, if dangerous by nature, are really stupid to keep.
