When he was a young dog hips looked better... They were a set just taken for a lookie at, not even for prelims.
I have an email into the person that may have a copy of the earlier xrays for comparison.
This is an area I'm really lacking in, I always send a copy of my xrays to Will for his opinion. (Really clear why he moved cross country isn't it? LOL) I'd like to feel a little more confident in this area.
Anyone else have xrays they want to post? Maybe start a new thread with them so that we can keep the comments straight?
Kinda give us a break from some of the heartbreak around here lately......
I have a couple on film that I will try and shoot a picture of later today. Have a couple of clients coming over so it might not be until tomorrow.
So we do have an expert opinion coming Betty? Or do you know the answer to this puzzle already?
Just kidding, it's a fun quiz.
Back to the off center projection or angle if you will.
Thinking about it, if the picture had been better positioned that ball joint 'may' show some better (closer to normal) definition, though I still have my reservations there , but that socket would become even shallower then it appears in that photo.
Hard to guess what OFA would say. I know your vet didn't take the picture, but I'm surprised anyone would send that in. Have you cropped it to exclude the knees? Proper positioning should be much straighter, and include the knees (as I'm sure you know, Betty - but for those that don't). The xray is kind of poor overall, in terms of quality of definition, however there is a shadow there... but I've been surprised both ways buy OFA.
Some breeders we work with will only use PennHip, because they feel that it is more objective, consistent, and rigorous in the scoring.
If this was my dog I would have made them retake the xray if that picture is the complete xray. I want to see the knees and I do not like how the legs do not look to be extended straight out.
This is a decent xray of one of my dogs (OFA good/Pennhip .36/.32 - 90% for the breed):

Another set was taken and no results yet.
When these were forwarded to me I thought I would throw them up and see what people thought. I learn a lot from these type of threads and every time something gets pointed out it's a little bit easier for me to see on my own the next time!
