Have you ever encountered this woman with the gate in-between you before? A barrier like that makes it an entirely different scenario than meeting on open ground, especially with her leaning over.
No ive never met her like that before,i usually meet her in the street, she just lives in the next block. We havnt met her for a while but hes fine meeting the neighbours they all know him well. Thanks for the reply,i dont know why he would be fearful ive had him since he was 8 weeks old.

That's one of the reasons I don't like people in general petting or greeting my dog.
Most and I mean 95% (if not more) people have absolutely no idea the proper way to greet a dog. Everyone always wants to pet them on top of the head, grab their ears, stroke them over their eyes, hold their snout, give them directions, etc and all the while leaning all over them.
If I were a dog I'd take offense to it too, if not out right bite them.
I'd consider this a warning shot over the bow. From now on a calm 'sit' and you greet the nieghbor (or who ever)......'no thanks, the dog is fine'.
Yes i agree randy thats good adice, its the best way to deal with someone who wants to pet the dog.Its something i allways do with strangers and i will be doing the same with the neighbours to.
thanks again
