"Vincent and the egge" sounds like the title of a yet to be written children's book! Love thd pics... Like Vincent, once Falcon has made a tooth puncture in a toy, it is all over for the toy... Not a pretty sight!

No toys just lying around to be fixated on.
So true Connie and normally, ALL toys here are put away. I have no resource guarding issues, in fact, they all border on polite when toys come out, giving me their best trained behaviours hoping they'll quickly get their chance. A big part of our training sessions is about “waiting your turn”.
This toy has been the exception. It’s not something that any one of them has shown particular interest in. More like a lawn ornament. I always felt that if one of them was to play with it, it might actually be a good thing, spark some interest in the others even, maybe. Not sure what I was thinking but just not something I worried about based on the lack of interest.
However, this new jaw dropping, generated interest simply has me on the alert to any potential issues.
And thank you so much for the reminder that it should have been away, not sitting beside me.
It’s big, I need to find a place for it; my toy box is full and had to get the pictures downloaded and posted, and company was coming and Vince needed to be in with me, and, and …. it won’t happen again.
Excellent reminder, again, thank you, it's so easy to get caught up in the moment.

Well, he put a dent in it! Our Egge is just plain not used. Maybe I will try to get a game going again. You have inspired me.

OMG Barbara, you can’t imagine how ironic this sentence is. What a beautiful thought and one I’m going to hold onto for a long time. Too cool.

Oh, I have never seen my dogs transfer the guarding action during a game to resource guarding when the game is over! I will be interested in what others say. Between the end of the game and the toy-putting-away I have never seen any continued interest in the toy.
Same here. The interest ends with my putting the toy away. Thor, until that point, will continue to try to entice me to play but leaves it when I put the toy away.....well maybe not exactly. Sometimes he'll stand there and stare at me and make "erhm" noises, sounds like grumbling under his breath and then loudly flops to the ground with a disgruntled "Hurrmph"
LOL! I just realized when he does that he promptly falls asleep....is this regression to his puppyhood?
Oh and hint for no interest in a new toy. I put them in the hamper for a week; it seems to increase his interest. I may have to try the egge....I'm curious to see if he would pick it up.

Our Egge is just plain not used.
Jenny, this was totally the way with ours too. Every once in a while, I would notice it and start kicking it around which always got Vince interested, but the minute I stop so does he. And it was more of an I kick/toss it, he runs to it and waits for me to get there to make it move again. He loved the chasing part but it kind of stopped there.
However, I actually really liked this toy for it's sturdiness and this kind of kicking around. Footballs, basketballs, soccer balls never lasted more than 5 minutes, regardless of quality. I spent a lot of money of the different brands.
The previous evening he did get it going a bit on his own. It was actually really fun to watch but short lived. With it having been the only toy at his disposal and I guess, him intent on wanting to play, I’m thinking his motivation to get this thing to me must have be through the roof. I still can’t figure out how he sunk his teeth into it. He’s a strong boy with a big jaw and very driven but this is one tough toy. And the sheer dynamics of it had me thinking this was impossible.
We have a vehicle tire that hangs from a heavy chain on a very strong limb of an old Russian Olive tree. He’d play with this for hours if I let him. He grips the rubber walls and squishes them like we’d squeeze play doh. This is the only thing, so far, that he chooses to set his sites on, that has remained intact. Well that and the Everlasting Treat Balls.
Again though, he never ceases to amaze me. I’ll never say never again.

LOL Sheila, you may be waiting a while. Vince has had about six months with daily explosure to this toy to figure out just the right bite placement.
And the whole time I thought he was ignoring it.

Those pictures are great!
Our Mal, Bailey, has also figured out how to get the whole thing in her mouth. I'll try to get some pictures. She loves playing with it but we only played with it in the Winter, when she can slide it around in the snow. Wears her out in about ten minutes.
The question I have for all the Egge users here is do you have any problems with it causing your dog's mouth to bleed? Bailey scratches it just enough with her teeth that I think the scratches cut her gums or lips. Each time we play, I have to lightly sand the scratches out to get it smooth enough to play with again without bloodying her mouth.

Hi Greg, interesting question.
There hasn’t been enough interest in the toy here to generate excitement to the point of bleeding gums. However this wasn’t something I was looking for and our egge is red so your question just had me examining his mouth. All healthy and intact.
It does have a few scratches though, along with the dents and hole inflicted yesterday. Nothing I would have thought about sandpapering but again, most likely hasn’t seen near the action yours has.

I have an old Jolly ball (18" hard plastic) my previous dog was nuts for that and would wear his muzzle near raw. I had to limit is play time. It also put some wear on a few teeth.
My present boys don't even look at that ball.
