I've got the tug DVD which is the only reason he is where he is.
The hand problem is arthritis & tendonitis.
I'd describe his obedience as sloppy & unenthusiastic. He's not very food motivated & would rather get his tug as a reward.
Ah, arthritis does indeed suck, my best friend suffers from it.
I'd also suggest getting the Michael Ellis DVD on Training With Food if it's possible. I hear you on the food motivation though, my pup is also not the most food motivated dog out there and it can make training a challenge at times.
Linda I joined a local SCH club and they've been helping me tremendously! My club does OB with the help besides just bite work. I costs me $20 per helper event or $300 for a year. Compared to the other local club that costs $600 this is a steal because the people I'm with go to nationals and the club president represents America at DVG.

Don't feed him outside of training sessions. If he is not interested in food right away put him up and try again later. Sooner or later he'll work for food.
You could use ball on the string if that makes your hands hurt less.
