the question you have to answer, is can you stand a floppy ear? . years ago i bought a GS puppy. mother was bred in Germany and then imported to US great bloodlines, i seen the sire in Germany, he was great, sable, DPO champion. the problem the pup was long haired i took him anyway. didn't look to bad as a puppy ( i found out later the grandmother was coated also} the pup's training was going well. every thing you would want in a dog, except i just couldn't stand the hair. It wouldn't be fair to the dog . i gave him away at about a year old to another dept. all the training wasted. tough call
If I'm feeling snarky or after the thousandth person of the day to ask what breed Jäger is I tell them he's an Alsatian.
It actually winds up saving me lots of time as when I say German Shepherd I invariably get the stories of how their grandpa's GSD taught them to drive a clutch, did their calculus homework, baked them cookies, and protected/herded them in the front yard when they were children.

How old is this dog? If he is less than a year and will tolerate taping, or bracing, I think you can very likely fix this without any implant. What is his temperament, can you fool with his ears w/o him becoming snarky? If so, I would cone the ear with paper tape for a week and see what that does. Two loops, one close to the head, one a little higher, over the crease, should do the trick if he will tolerate it.
If he has a very heavy ear leather which has a firm crease, like a hound, for example, then it's not likely to stand w/o surgery.

Oh and check with a vet but I have heard a couple of people that started giving an older dog hyaluronic Acid state that their dogs with weak or floppy ears suddenly went erect. That kind of got my attention as these were older dogs.

The HA really caught my attention as it was on a thread where people were using it on older dogs with joint problems. One person stated in more of an aside type manner that her older dogs ears were totally erect for the first time and a few other people chimed in with I'll be darn, same thing here.

Fantastic Idea!!!! Love that one. Somedays I let people tell me Koenig is a GSD mix, and I just let it go. Get sick of arguing that the Dutch ShepherdIS a breed, and NO it's NOT a GSD!
