Ariane: Hows this for another stupid accident: I got to close to
the fence playing ball with my 3year old WGS Luna, she slambed
into my left leg and fractured my tibia, been in a wheel chair for 2 months now. I think Luna feels bad because she follows me
everywhere ( she used to be afraid of wheelchairs ). Weather has
been so hot she is happy to be in the airconditioning and has not
complained about not playing or going for walks. How Lucky did I
get? especially since she used to be a terror.

Ariane and Betty - your injuries sound horribly painful. I do hope both of you are up and about really soon.
(When I injure myself - I'm a total clutz - it happens fairly often *sigh*) I road work my basket case, I mean dog. I'm also lucky because when the weather is awful, as it has been here, I can water the lawn and wear him out (at least for a little bit) by turning on the sprinklers. He can spend hours jumping up to catch raindrops. I'm not sure that says anything nice about his IQ, but, whatever works......

Ariane, how is that broken arm? How are you doing? Did you have the surgery yet?

Here is some update! Iam out of the cast, elbow don't stay in cast more then 2 weeks. I have over 100 screws plus a plate. I ended up have problem with the nerve block so I have spent about a week in hospital.
So I am cast free but can't move much yet, 10% rang of normal and no strenght.
I am able to take the dogs for short runs in the wood off leash. Can't drive, bike or do much cause of the pain killer side effect.
I will start slowly to work from the right side. I can tell 2 weeks away and the ob is out the door!!! Boyfiend still in charge of feeding.
I am now heading for 3 months of intense physio, hopefuly to get to get full recovery.
I am as bored as the dog, I can't even trow the ball that much.

The equine section of the national veterinary meeting I attend looks like an orthopedic ward -- you can tell which section is equine by all the casts and crutches and black eyes gathered outside their conference room, waiting for their meeting to begin.
The "spook" is so lightening fast that human reflexes just don't compete, you can't protect yourself from it, no matter how "horse savvy" you are.
You have my best wishes. Try to be patient! It will heal.
Too bad you didn't have this in JANUARY instead of the nicest time of year!

Oh my gosh, 100 screws in your arm???!!! Have they told you they will stay in, or are they planning to remove them at some point? When I broke my leg, I only had 7 screws and a plate, and they said it would stay there forever, but then the plate broke in half, and I had to have another surgery to remove all the hardware.
I understand about the boredom. Don't worry about the dogs. Having a few months off from training isn't going to cause any long-term damage. It's good to know that you've got people to help you with them, and I'm sure all the other chores around the house and barn.
Sounds like you've got a bit of a road to recovery, but I wish you all the best and I hope you will be back to 100 percent normal soon. Please keep us posted on your progess.

Cheri, I have to mention that most of the screws are very small to hold all the pieces together. The elobow tip pretty much exploded.
I went for a short awfull walk with Harley. ![ smiley for ](http://leerburg.com/forums/images/graemlins/default/cry.gif) We try him on the right but we could not figure it easily but that is what worked the best. I had try to hold the leash with just my right hand, left hand is useless at the moment. With Harley on my left and my new lack of balance. I just kept on pulling him in my feet. Then my arm started to contract so my upper body get out of line and Harley read this as a cue to turn right and just try to pull in that direction being confused, poor boy.
The poor dog is so full of energy, he just can't stay in place. I tried to play ball with him and it is nice but I can't trow too many balls or I get all spastic in the left arm.
I need a solution for him and I. I have to rest and he is bouncing off the wall of his crate.
I have to say that it is very impressive how much we need that second hand and now find it amazing that many people go thru life with just one arm.

Ariane, can you tie something heavy to Harley and let him pull it around the yard? I mean, like a brick or something. Tie him to it, make him wait, hobble to the other end of the yard, and call him. What about hanging a toy (like a jolly ball or something kind of large) with a rope out of reach from a tree branch or beam, and you standing back at a distance pulling it up and down with your good arm, so he can get his jumps out?
I am sorry to hear how badly hurt you are. I hope everything heals up properly.

I have been doing some "doctoring" myself lately, it is such a drag, and such a shock to be "sick".
I wish you the best. Try to be patient, though it is hard. It will heal.

It's even MORE fun when you are on them when they do it!
