My male GSD, up until about two years ago, never met a toy he could not destroy. BTW this is a dog that once managed to pull a (I kid you not) RAILROAD TIE out of frozen soil, so as you can see he's not lacking in jaw power.
Found a solid rubber ball at PetsMart, kinda blue and red colored, that sold for about eleven bucks. At least I think it's rubber. Whatever it is, he hasn't even managed to put a DENT in it in TWO YEARS. This ball is about the size of a tennis ball. Wish I could remember the manufacturer... does anyone else have one of these?

Must've been your Dobe that nearly broke my arm through the puppy sleeve a few years back.

You know, I've seen the Galileo in the store, but I'm not sure it would hold my dog's interest. It just looks kinda plain. The nice thing about the Kong is the ability to stick stuff in there to make it more interesting (I have found that those square Nutro dog biscuits are *perfect*). But, I would buy the Galileo if I thought that my dog would like it....anyone have any experience with it?

Have any of you ever tried actually GIVING your dogs all the toys they want?
My Rottweiler Zak was a lot like what you guys have said...he loved shredding any toy we gave him. Now we give him a consistant supply of toys of all textures and we keep it really cheap. Safe-looking stuffed animals from goodwill... about .10 cents up to .50 cents each. Those soft tugs that they sell at dog shows for .75 cents to 1.00, rope toys from the dollar store, tennis balls, etc...
Of course he does shred one every few weeks, but it doesn't matter since its not a a big loss. He doesn't usually shred his toys now, though, since he has enough. Before, he'd get bored playing with one toy and chew it up. Now if he's bored with a toy, he just goes to a new toy.

That wouldn't really work for me, because my dog shreds things within minutes, literally. Plus, he *ingests* things, and I really don't have the money to pay for the surgery to remove the inevitable intestinal blockage that would result, not to mention the GI distress that something like that is likely to cause. I guess that could work if your dog doesn't swallow stuff, and if he takes at least a few days to shred stuff. Not mine, though.

OK everybody,
This is what you need!!!
It's a ball that comes from a WILDEN Diaphragm pump. 3-1/2" dia.
Wilden part number is 04-1080-56 for a t-4 pump.
This part can be purchassed at a industrial/farm supply store thAT handles Wilden Pumps.
I've had the same ball for 4 yrs. It has lots and lots of bite marks but is still 3-1/2" in dia.
My Akita has gotten bored with it/ the GSD still chews on it still.
I can't remember the cost, sorry I think around $10.00
Give it a try.

my dogs both took pretty well to the galileo, but it's not their first choice if given other options.

We have two male Komondor, an 11mo old and a 2 year old (Brothers), and the only toy that they will not destroy within hours is their Nylabone Galileo's. Each dog has one, although they only want the one that the other one has. They will wear these down over a period of 6 months and then we replace them. Given the choice between these and a stuffed toy, the stuffed toy would be their first choice (Then we get to play cleanup), but of their selection of Kongs, Tigerballs and the like the Galileo gets the most use.
I only know one dog that can destroy one. He is an incredibly high drive Appenzaler. So I figure that they are a good option for most dogs.
