Funny how these threads can go full circle some times huh Todd!LOL
I think common sense and judgement come into play. If the items are not chewed or damaged in any way just "moved" then thats one thing. I see ANY evidence of chewing then yes, I agree with Todd. CRATE!
I don't care who said it first. The point of the matter is very simple. If you don't want your stuff out when you come home. Use a crate.
I also think for a young dog, it is in the crate anyway. It is so hard to predict when they all of a sudden decide today is the day I chew it up.
I am sorry if I seem very remedial in my posts. It is just that I deal with the general public everyday on dog issues. I sometimes forget on here I am talking to people who might have a clue about dogs.
Great discussing this with you Todd. Nice debate everyone.
Well, let's see if Joe(since it was his question in the first place!) has anything to add or ask. Then unless someone else has something new (that hasn't already been said 100 times!LOL ) to add, I think the thread has run its course.
WOW, thanks everyone for the replies, I think 50 replies to a post in 2 days could be a new Leerburg record???
In regards to the shoes, I personally don't see it as a dominanance issue. I really do see it is a "I miss you and these shoes smell like you so I want them by me". You guys know that I am not a real "touchy feely" dog person either so take that for what it is worth.
In regards to crating him, I don't see that as a solution because as of right now, I don't have a real problem with him taking my shoes to the front door. He is not chewing them or being destructive.
The other reason I won't crate him is because he is part of my security system here at my home. I don't think he would do much good locked in the crate. Hans has a special place in his heart for bad guys, he loves the taste of them.
My airedale likes to carry shoes around the house, sometimes standing next to me waiting for a shoe to come off. Then struts around carrying his prize. But sometimes he does damage so i take it from him.He also counter surfs so we keep things out of reach. But in our case we just keep an eye on him.Maybe if you put something on the shoe that tastes bad he would not enjoy it any more.
But if he has done no harm at least he found some cheep way of entertaining himself.
The rottweiler has developed a shoe fetish?
As a test of the rotty's psyche, what happens the next day... if the shoes are not put away, but remain at the door? Is he satisfied with the shoes that are already there, or does he bring more shoes?
