Doing things like putting the dog in the crate, driving around town, driving to the airport, feeding delicious treats, driving back home will go a long way to acclimating the dog.
I think they can get used to just about anything if they understand that it is temporary, no need to panic, this too shall pass.
HUGE ditto! Good post!
One problem is that this excellent and productive POV is often met by the worrier with "Yeah, but ...."
But much of any scary event can be rehearsed and made pleasant and accustomized-to, and thus rendered non-scary.
Like the trips to the vet's office with an anxious dog -- trips with nothing but weighing and a treat (or even nothing but the treat in the parking lot, to start) ..... a looming event can become almost matter-of-fact.
And if the process can dial back the owner's reactivity (which goes straight down the leash), then all the better.
