If titling in SchH is the main goal then a nicely bred GSD will provide a higher success probability, especially in the tracking phase. Not saying Mal will be a bad choice but the chances of titling will be less as compared to a GSD.

Yes, based on seeing the difficulty handlers face when teaching SchH style tracking. It can be done but is easier with GSD's. Have you titled your's to SchH3 and trialed at National level?
Then I don't think you're watching quality handlers, and quality dogs. I think that it seems GSD's provide a higher success rate in Schutzhund because many Malinois owners gravitate to the various Ring sports, where the speed and agility of the dog is appreciated.

Faisal....Schutzhund, as I am sure you know, was basically started as a 'breed test/temeperment test' for GSD to determine which dogs should be used to pass on their quality genes. This was many years ago & since it is no longer the true barometer or yardstick to determine these 'qualities', there are may other breeds competing in the sport of SchH.
To say that GSDs are the best breed for this sport is just simply not true. There are many mals competing & winning trials, as well as dobs, rotts & bully breeds. The mal is just not as common a breed as the GSD, although it is gaining in recent years. Since the ring sports have 'taken off' in the US there are now more mals doing ring then SchH.
But to state that you will out & out do better with a GSD is foolish. Mals are just as capable as GSDs at tracking. They are after all, Belgium SHEPHERDS.

SchH style tracking is not some deep dark secret task to teach. It's tracking & it takes time to teach & time to perfect. Some dogs are better trackers then others...has nothing to do with whether they are Mals or GSDs. Both are equally good at it, if it's the right dog & trained properly.

Seriously? My friend just got his BH and a 93 point FH on the same day with his Mali. And the responses you're getting about tracking are mainly from GSD owners. That has to tell you something.
The problem is that majority of responses are from people who have never titled GSD's and/or Mals in SchH tracking. If they did then the responses would be different.
Hopefully OP will research more than just here and reduce his chances of washing out several dogs before finding the right one. This is what I mean buy "chances of success".
