" ... Eukanuba Naturally Wild Venision. I figure lets mix it see how he does and if still in issue Ill relook the situtation. But since switching he is eating more and show excitement. I thought about maybe seeing if you guys could come up with any extra add ins as far as maybe some chicken or beef/steak tips to add some more nutritional value to it. I read where one didnt think it was a good idea to mix due to the difference in texture or palitity. "
I recommend against mixing raw with kibble. Nothing about texture or palatability .... strictly because of slowing down raw meat digestion by mixing it with much slower-digesting kibble, thereby giving food-borne pathogens on raw meat an unnatural opportunity to colonize, which a dog's system is set up to avoid.
Do you mean adding cooked meat? If so, that's fine if the amount added is either adjusted for calcium OR kept to under about 10% of the total food.
That is, if you want to add cooked meat, you want to keep it under 10% or so of the diet so it doesn't throw off the calcium:phosphorus ratio. Cooked meat, of course, doesn't have the bones with it that provide the calcium that balances the meat's phosphorus (and you never want to give cooked bones).
(If for some reason you were going to provide a big chunk of the diet as home-cooked, you would have to supplement with calcium, such as from crushed eggshells. It's not a hit-or-miss thing, as a steady diet; the Ca:P balance is very important. )
I know this is much more than you asked, but I couldn't think of a way to make a short but thorough answer. (When did I ever? )
Are you using bits of real cooked meat for marker-training rewards? That's a great way to give some oomph to the diet.
BTW, you want to start a new thread with a new title when you're on a new topic (anything that isn't "Help with overcoming an eating issue") so you get the responses you need.
