Lots of good info, guys. Thanks so much! He's got a pretty good hold on himself on most things like waiting at the door, at the stairs, for the release to get his food/water. Of course he's still a puppy and messes up a lot, but I've started to notice how he'll catch himself doing the wrong thing and look to me to see if I caught him doing it. If he sees that I noticed (staring at him) he'll back up into whatever he's supposed to be doing.
