We don't use private tracking fields - now mind you we don't have much "grass" either! LOL
But I work with what I have and always take advantage of the morning dew to help us out.
Try to pick places to start that are along the side of buildings, or out back of a building, where not a lot of people walk. Once the dog "gets it", you have a lot more choices and can start with diversifying and challeges.
Farms have been nice enough to lend us cut fields - not sure if there is anything in your area like this!
Thanks for the help. My biggest obstacle is for the most part it has to be within walking distance. But if I can use the least used parts of school fields then hell yeah. Its so crowded around here but the good thing is people don't like cold weather.
Sorry not trying to hijack your and Koenig's thread Kelly.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
The trouble with school fields is traffic- so you've got to catch them on weekend mornings, or VERY EARLY weekday mornings! When you're starting out, you don't want to have to deal with any cross-tracks, like you already know.
Tall grass is not a necessary, at all!!! I've NEVER had the opportunity to track Koenig in anything more then 4''!
