My favorite was the guy who, after letting his off-leash min-pin run up to Sutter (a definite DINOS), told me to "Get a dog you can handle, lady" when Sutter reacted aggressively. (I had told him my dog didn't like other dogs when we were over 1/2 a block away.) we're working on it.
It amazes me how many people let their yorkies and chihuahuas and other tiny dogs run right up to large, strange dogs without a thought.

"Will you please stop running away so I can catch my dog?" Yup, I have two DINOS here, each in their own unique way.

Great post Kelly.
There are alot of mentaly challenged people out there when it comes to dog ownership & I am not referring to the doctor bonified cases.
Try as I may to keep my dogs safe from stupid dog owners loose out of control dogs, my poor dogs have been attacked numerous times over the past 7 years. It is becoming more & more difficult to find a SAFE place to take my dogs out for a run.
I try to pick times that most people are at work or at the end of the day when it is getting dark. I avoid most places at the times when most people are out with their dogs, if at all possible.
I now have a dog that has become reactive & fairly dog aggressive, thanks to these idiots. Even with that..with her training...she will still recall to me when being attacked by a strange dog. Go figure.
My dogs do NOT NEED dog friends...they have their pack & that is enough. I don't care if your dog is friendly or not. I don't want other dogs around MY DOGS. PERIOD!! Why can't people mind their own business?!!!
MY DOGS...MY RULES

I saw this on FB this morning and reposted it. Then I took my dog to the park and dealt with it, as I seem to have to do far too often. I wish the info in this article was something that could somehow make it into the hands of every dog owner via training classes, the vet, whatever.
Today was yet another day when I had to be really rude and nasty, and it bums me out. I'm tired of calling the police too. I want to enjoy the time that I spend out with my dog; it's break-time for me and the time in my day when I get to have head space and some fun one-on-one with my favorite fella (my dog). I'm beyond tired of having the inconsiderate behavior of other people ruin the part of my day that's supposed to be about fun and relaxation.
Today it was a barking, staring, off-leash fluffy-thing with no recall. Ugh. I managed to stay away from it, but I had to yell at the owner to get him to stop following after me.

If you are looking for great places to walk your dogs without encountering these idiots, head to the cemetery! My mom lives across the street from one and walking my dogs over there is incredibly peaceful. We just go after the office has closed

Jenny, I get the same thing! "If you would just stand still for a minute I can catch her." Well, Kaycee is a DINOS, and she will snap at your dog running at her full speed hackles up teeth bared, no I will not sit there so they can fight. No, she is not trying to say hi.

Even if both dogs are dog-friendly, it's still a hassle.
Before we were married, my husband and I went to the lake with the kids and my dog. He was new to dogs in every way. This lady comes up into the area where we were with an over-enthusiastic Lab-ish dog on a retractable leash. Hubby had the leash while I was tending to the kayaks. Ollie is pretty dog friendly, but Steve was cut badly by the ladies leash. He couldn't get them untangled and the retractable wrapped around his ankle. She was spouting the whole, "he just wants to say hi!" crap. SHe just stood there while he struggled. I came over and got them untangled. Ten minutes later, she comes back through and still has the leash fully extended!!! I had Ollie this time, and kind of stomped my foot and scared her dog. She was actually mad! My husbands ankle was so bad that it had to be treated.
Granted, Ollie was still a pup and was just as excited once the other dog came up to him, but Ollie was on a 6 foot leash completely away from the walkway.

Ugh. Zeph is being worked through a bunch of this crap and every time we run into a "Friendly" one (always on the trails when biking or walking) we have an issue. "She doesn't know your dog. She doesn't want to play." "She's not good with other dogs" "It doesn't matter that your dog is friendly, mine is not" "She will bite" etc. She qualifies as a DINOS. The "Friendlier" they are the worse of a time we have. She's great with dogs who have the sense to back off. It's the law to leash dogs there so I only have to wonder aloud about them and usually people go away quickly.
I nearly punted a Boston the other week who would not go away. When none of the usual, "Keep him over there. She will hurt him." worked I'd just about had it. Informing the owner that "She will end your dog's existence." said very factually put a little pep in his step.
If I don't want to be bothered she wears a basket muzzle. Conveniently people cross the street or move their dogs even though she's all of 32lbs. I'm totally okay with that perception.
"I can't read this. It has silent E's." |

I've found that staring the human right in the eye and saying NO works. It unnerves them, and they don't want to stand around someone who makes them really uncomfortable.
The only time I've ever had to get nasty about someone approaching my dog with theirs was the time some crazy ditz thought it'd be a good idea to not only allow her small dog near mine without any control but her toddler also ran up into my dog's face and screamed. I realize kids do stupid things all the time, but thank god I had the right dog out that day, or things would have gotten nasty in a split second.
Human beings are the most dangerous animal on the street. They're completely unpredictable and will do vastly inappropriate things completely out of the blue.
