One year,(I think it was the year before I commenced divorce proceedings funnily enough) I got:
A dishwasher, the tablets and the rinse aid that went with it, AND he had it plumbed in before christmas lunch! a frying pan, a vegetable steamer and a set of tumblers, he was SUCH a romantic!
Another year, my parents stopped on the way to me and bought a really ugly, cheap watch, unwrapped and in its protective bubble wrap fom a garage, but with my parents, the piece de resistance was the December I orchestrated christmas from my hospital bed while having 90 hours intravenous chemo, got it all done single handed, and as well as leaving me to prepare lunch, clear up and make endless cups of tea, my mother was massively disappointed with one of the gifts I got her and asked if I could take it back and change it!
Since then, I divorced the blot on my landscape and stopped inviting my parents over for christmas, self preservation is what its called
Love it! What a good way to have fun with it. I agree with Kristel, I like that story. I don't know though, the step ladder isn't bad. I'm guessing that the oscilloscope was one of those 'Look what I got you, us, really just me' gifts? Wow!
Holy crap! Did you divorce your parents too? Sometimes I think my folks are bad, but that just takes the cake.
Sorry, I just realized that comment was really insensitive. I don't mean to offend you or your folks. I got a bit offended for you when I read that.

Edit reason: I'm an insensitive bitch. Sorry.
Catherine, you have got miles to go before you could say anything offensive where my family is concerned! during that period my sister came to visit and proclaimed I looked like a tell tubby - bald and bloated!
The beauty of having family like mine is you become very hardened and value the companionship of dogs beyond anything you ever get from your family lol!
Tracy...glad to know that I am not the only one who had (both my parents are deceased) issues with parents. And then throw in one loony aunt who thought she was disrespected because one Thanksgiving an old family friend got a drumstick instead of her.
The following year we bought a turkey and a quarter (how else would you get three drumsticks).
Like the tee shirt says...compared to most people I prefer my dogs.
I loved the step ladder, that seems such a wonderful blend of romantic, funny and practical!!! LOL
My worst gift ever was from my EX-husband.
He made a big deal out of buying me a small potted Ginko tree. It was my 40th birthday present.
The catch is that he had mown my recently planted Ginko tree down on purpose a few months earlier - saying that it was stupid to plant things in the lawn so that he had to mow around them....
What a guy, making out as if he was buying me a great gift.... and yes we did get divorced about a year later.. LOL
