I think they want us to know that they aren't wearing shoes and the pavement can be hot and abrasive. (I can't stand it when I see a person walking a poor dog across hot asphalt when its 100*)
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
Consistency and routine. Dogs need to count on daily exercise and also know when their down time is, feeding time etc. Also, mental stimulation is needed as much as the physical exercise.
Sure they are adaptable, but seem to thrive when things are consistently the same.
Also, patience, and fairness. If your dog is not understanding you, don't give up on them, find a clearer solution so that it is indelible.
I think that humans tend to get stuck on the past- past mistakes especially, and end up forcing the past on the dog. being unable to forget a dogs behavior once that scared or confused a person and the n being unable to accept that the dog has moved on in a way humans arent good at.
I think they probably also want us to know they don't really get that whole dressing up in a silly costume at Halloween thing.
I agree, but then I grew up in the UK so I have no sense of the Halloween culture at all. Personally I wouldn't dress my kids in it either. From time to time, though, one has to stop taking oneself too seriously and take a moment just to enjoy one's friends, acquaintances, and the sheer enjoyment of being with one's favourite animals, and if this includes donning a stupid costume so be it..all the more so when it raises money for charities. As for dressing one's dog up too...well if I can do it, I figure my dog can too. I'm pretty sure that dogs think humans are emotionally stunted; I am always overwhelmed by their emotional intelligence.
I think both of my dogs would want me to understand why they act the way they do, so that I can understand them better and be a bigger part of their lives. Not just their leader, but more of a kindred spirit. Just because they love me, and respect me, doesn't mean I understand them. If there was ever such a thing as unconditional love, I know that's what my dogs feel towards me, and that's all they want in return.
Have enjoyed reading this thread. I'm torn on the requests of dogs in quality homes or those without. Lucky dogs probably focus on more food, more treats, more ear rubs, throw the ball; more of anything that feels good and is fun. The unlucky dogs probably focus first on survival needs shelter and water/food; then the emotional needs of compainonship, socialization type stuff. Probably the theme message all dogs could relay if able is that they are at our mercy.
